Bin Laden death gets most Tweets-per-minute EVER

Official Twitter data shows that the killing and aftermath inspired the most sustained tweeting the microblogging site has ever seen.

THE DATA-CRUNCHERS at Twitter have discovered that the death of Osama Bin Laden led to the highest sustained bout of tweeting on the site ever.

Twitter noted that from 10.45pm to 2.20am Eastern Seaboard Time in the US (3.45-7.30am here in Ireland), an average of 3,440 tweets were going through their system EVERY second.

This has been a busy four days for internet communications – the British royal wedding became the largest event in internet history last Friday.

A message from Twitter (on Twitter, appropriately enough) confirmed the level of activity.
