It’s the second road death in Co Limerick in just 24 hours.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING a fatal collision involving two cars, which occurred this afternoon near Charleville, Co Limerick.

The crash happened at around 12.30 pm, on the N20 at Creggane.

The driver of one of the vehicles was seriously injured and subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.

The body will be removed to Midwestern Regional Hospital in Limerick for a post-mortem later today.

The driver of the other car was taken to Limerick Regional hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and there were no passengers in either vehicle.

Today’s incident brings to 107 the number of people killed on Irish roads so far in 2014, an increase of three from this time last year.

Witnesses are asked to call Bruff Garda station on 061-382-940, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111, or to contact any Garda station.
