Legalised it would bring in enough revenue to look after our hospitals, and a lot more besides!

it’s a waste of time going after these types of operations. you can buy everything you need in the shops, seeds and all. why do they sell them if they are illegal? go after the heroin importers and leave the pot heads alone.

Because its not illegal to buy cannabis plant seeds. How can it be illegal to buy a natural plant seed. Its once you plant them in soil the so called “crime” is committed. As far as I know its not even illegal to have 1 or 2 plants but anymore & then its intent to supply. That’s where the drugs legislation kicks in.

they should get with the times. seeds are sold as souvenirs. smells like entrapment to me. makes the guards look good tackling harmless pot heads, least resistance from any drug culture.

What a massive waste of Garda time and resources, court time, prison costs.

Surely the “advanced analytical methods” could be better used to combat violent crime.

Coffee is potentially more harmful than these plants FFS!!

A penniless eastern European was caught in a growhouse – he is on remand since.
A cocaine dealer was caught with a lot of the drug – he was granted Bail in the morning …

I love the footnote that gardai used all the fancy police work to find him, they probably got a call from the ESB to say this 3 bed semi has a massive electric bill and went around, that’s what police in England did for years, that and had helicopters with infa red cameras flying around and if a house glowed a bit more than the rest they got a knock on the door

That technique is still used. The helicopters use flir cameras to detect unusual heat coming from buildings/residences. Then a ground team is sent to the area to check anything unusual about the property like the window blinds constantly down etc. A lot of grow ops will bypass the meter so the electricity consumption won’t red flag. I would say a lot of the grow houses are caught from tip offs.

Even if the meter is bypassed the ESB will no that allot of power is being consumed and not paid for in a certin area.
Guards will then have a look around that area for a grow house.

If the electricity is being used and not paid for why do the ESB not cut them off ? Just curious !!!
