KINGS OF LEON have cancelled their entire US tour after an onstage meltdown by lead singer Caleb Followill in Dallas, Texas on Saturday.
The frontman walked into the wings saying that his voice was “100 per cent wrong” and that he was going to have a beer and a vomit, reports Time. He said he would be back onstage but when he didn’t reappear the show was brought to an end.
A gig in Houston the following night was postponed, and now the band’s entire US tour has been cancelled. NME reports that the dates will not be rescheduled due to Kings of Leon’s internationaltouring schedule.
The band members have Twitter accounts and have been tweeting about the developments.
Bass guitarist Jared Followill, who is Caleb’s brother, initially tweeted that there “are internal sicknesses and problems that have needed to be addressed… No words”. Then yesterday he said:
Utterly depressed, It’s completely out of my hands. Family has to come first. If bass solo and backing vocals were more popular I’d be there.
Followed by:
Thanks to all my friends, family and fans. I’m not going to stop working. I’m going to spend time writing songs and looking to the future.
His comments indicated that the future of the band was in jeopardy, but he was quick to tweet that Kings of Leon were not breaking up.
Drummer Nathan Followill, brother to Caleb and Jared, also tweeted after the Dallas show, saying:
Not so good morning for me today. Ashamed and embarrassed by last night’s fiasco. Can’t apologise enough, utterly gutted. A million ‘I’m sorries’.
Caleb Followill has said that he is “just trying to get better” and allowing his voice to rest, reports MTV.
NME reports that the band’s publicist has released a statement, saying that the “band is devastated, but in order to give their fans the shows they deserve, they need to take a break”.
