Baby saved from live burial after undertakers heard her cry

The baby girl was thought to have died shortly after birth in Brazil. She was rushed back to hospital but later passed away.

A NEWBORN GIRL was saved from being buried alive when she started crying at a funeral home, but she died Wednesday after being rushed back to a hospital in Brazil, medical officials said.

A 14-year-old mother who was seven months pregnant gave birth to the girl Tuesday at the Santa Casa de Misericordia hospital in the city of Araxa, according to a police statement.

It said the hospital reported that the baby died moments after being born and her body was sent to a funeral home. As the undertaker was preparing it for burial, the girl started crying.

The baby was rushed back to the hospital and was then transferred to a neonatal intensive care unit at the Hospital das Clinicas in the city of Uberaba.

“She died of multiple organ failure caused by a lack of oxygen in the blood,” said Joao Paulo Vicente, a spokesman for the Hospital das Clinicas, speaking by telephone.

Neither police nor the hospitals released the names of the mother or child.

So is the baby girl alive or dead…really unclear, this article has obviously been copy and pasted from AP or something because the end makes no sense. That second last line containing a quote is confusing!

Hi Benvolio. Unfortunately the baby girl died, as the story’s first paragraph states. You’re right, this is an AP story – we have a contract with them and they are credited as the author.

Thank you for the clarification Michael. Not the hopeful outcome I at first thought, poor little thing.

Isn’t this the third time a dead person has come back to life in the last few months? There was that Russian woman (who then died again) and I thought there was someone else too.
