There was a dramatic end to the FEI Nations’ Cup at the Dublin Horse Show this evening, as Ireland and Great Britain found themselves locked in a jump-off to decide the event.
The Irish team of Billy Twomey, Shane Sweetnam, Nicola Fitzgibbon and Denis Lynch completed their two rounds with four errors in each. Their cumulative total of eight errors matched that of the British team, whose error-strewn first round was followed by an unlikely clean sweep in a second.
The resulting jump-off saw the Irish unable to match the impeccable form of their opponents.
Though the manner of its achievement will undoubtedly leave a bitter taste, the Irish team will surely find some consolation in their second prize of €40,000.
Hey sports guys, what about the biggest win for the Irish today? Dan Martin in the tour of Poland. No article on that , disgrace
