Jury finds garda guilty of assault in Waterford trial

Sergeant Martha McEnery has been found guilty of assault. Two other gardaí were found guilty on Friday on charges arising from the same incident.

SERGEANT MARTHA MCENERY has been found guilty of assault as the trial of four Waterford-based gardaí draws to a close.

However, she has been found not guilty of assualt causing harm, after an incident onvolving Anthony Holness in the city in January of last year.

RTÉ reports that the jury deliberated for more than three hours before finding Sergeant McEnery guilty of the lesser charge of assault.

On Friday Garda Daniel Hickey was found guilty of assault causing harm to Holness on New Street in Waterford City on 29 January 2010, while Garda John Burke has been found guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice,

Sergeant Alan Kissane was found not guilty of assault.
