THE PILOT OF a Red Arrow stunt plane that crashed in Bournemouth in England today has died. Sky News has just named the pilot as Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging.
The Red Arrow team – the Royal Air Force Acrobatic Team – was performing at an air show near the village of Throop and Bournemouth airport when one of the planes crashed on its return at about 1.50pm.
The UK’s Ministry of Defence has said that is investigating the incident but would not give any more details at this time. Nine planes had performed in the aerobatic display before the plane crashed on open ground and came to a stop near some trees.
Onlookers told the Daily Telegraph that they saw the plane hit the ground and bounce several times before being steered towards the river and away from the village and people out walking.
