QUIZ: How Much of an Irish Mammy Are You?

Let’s find out, for once and for all.

AN IRISH MOTHER is a very special thing.

Perhaps it’s because all of us can still clearly hear our mother’s voice (warning us about catching a cold and eating up our dinner) ringing in our ears as we grow up and become mothers and fathers ourselves that we’re all still so familiar with “Irish Mammyisms”.

Whatever the reason, we all know that the Irish Mammy isn’t so much a state of being as a way of life – and as we get older, they do say we turn into our parents…

1. How often do you think about your immersion?
50 times a day - conservative estimate.
Only when I'm showering!

What? Never. We have a timer.
Well, I've been known to send texts home asking is it on...
2. What's the first thing you do when you welcome someone into your house?
Stick the kettle on.
Insist they have a cup of tea. No surrender.

Tell them to take off their coat - they won't feel the benefit otherwise.
Ask them to take off their shoes.
3. What does this mean to you?
Trouble.
Cooking.
4. Have you ever told anyone making faces that "if the wind changes, your face will stay like that"?
Yes. Because it will!
No, of course not.
5. Your friend tells you they're off on holiday. What do you say?
"Lovely - be sure to take some photos."
"Would you like some sausages and teabags to bring with you?"

"Can I come too?"
"Sure haven't you done enough gallivanting?"
6. What is your worst nightmare?
Ghosts, spiders, that kind of thing.
Letting someone leave the house with their hair wet.
7. What are you most likely to be doing on a Friday night?
Watching the Late Late.
Hitting up Coppers.

Getting the train back home.
Having dinner out somewhere nice.
8. Do you have a "good" scissors and a normal scissors in your house?
Yes, of course.

And let's face it: who doesn't? Yep, you're prone to panics over the immersion here and there. In fact... Are you sure it's not on right now?

Nothing to worry about - yet...
You're not a full-blown Irish Mammy just yet, but watch out. Offer one more person a cup of tea and who knows what might happen...

You're definitely more of a modern Irish mum
You're not as old school as the classic Irish Mammy. But that said, every now and again, you do think about that wooden spoon...
