Progress reported after a late, late night at the public sector pay talks

The exact details are still being hammered out.

GOOD PROGRESS IS being reported in the public sector pay talks.

Government officials and unions held a meeting that lasted until the early hours of the morning last night.

However, the exact details of any increase in pay, or an extension to Haddington Road, have yet to be finalised.

Leaving the talks last night, IMPACT’s Niall Shanahan said a “lot of progress” had been made and that the talks were now in the “closing stages”.

One change being considered is an increase of €1,000 per year for public servants for two years – centred on changes to the pension levy, in return for an extension of the Haddington Road deal over the next same timeframe.

Plans to dismantle FEMPI legislation were announced in the Spring Statement.

Minister for Public Expenditure Brendan Howlin said he had invited representatives for public servants to talks, but that any pay increase must be matched with continued productivity improvements and reform.

Both sides will meet again at the Labour Relations Commission at 10am. The finished up overnight at around 2am.

With reporting from Daragh Brophy.

I actually don’t have a problem with ads. It’s the complete lack of customer targeting. I don’t have adblock on my phone. It just happened to me earlier on when I opened up a video on AngryJoe and the ad was for P&G shampoo. Why? The ad is clearly targeted at women. But Google has been collecting data on me for years, they should know not to target me with inane ads that I’m immediately going to skip.

Folks using firefox can look up ad nausuem extension which when with ad blocker both blocks and clicks on the ads generating revenue if they are on a PPC ad type system.

My main concern is poor ads, youtube plays me stuff that I have no interest in or would ever really want, I thought Google and Facebook where supposed to know more about me.

No for just removal of advertising. Maybe yes for some decent premium content. The problem is that paid services are adding up more and more and have to decide only for the best of them. Already paying monthly for Netflix, Spotify, Google for business, playstation plus and Xbox live. Never mind other standard bills.

If folks are on firefox, and use adblocker but also feel bad about not clicking on ads.

you can download an extension called ad nauseum which when combined with adblocker will auto block all ads, and simultaneously click on them all and close them at the same time. Boom, you’re a better customer than they could hope for.

    Banner ads are the worst.

Adblocker is an excellent extension that cuts through a lot of chaff content. Banner ads are so wildly unsuccessfuly, a fraction of a percent of the time is all they ever get clicked on.

Youtube ads are worse, having only 5 seconds to grab your attention before you skip.

I don’t think a pass on ads would be enough for a piad sub, maybe a less compressed video, better higher quality stuff especially sound, if they offered a higher bitrate player for sound alla the 1080p60fps they offer now, but I don’t see the need to offer paid subs to do that.
