FOR IRISH RUGBY fans, it has been a long wait through a fairly average summer to see the Six Nations champions in action again.
Unfortunately, unless you’re one of the 74,500 people with a ticket for the Millennium Stadium today, watching this game is not as straightforward as usual.
Wait. You mean the game’s not on TV?
That’s right. The first of Ireland’s four Rugby World Cup warm-ups will not be carried live by Sky, TV3 or RTÉ.
It will be shown on BBC Wales, but that channel is not readily available on this side of the Irish Sea and BBC have confirmed to The42 that the match is not scheduled to be carried on either BBC Northern Ireland or through the red button on the Beeb’s digital stations.
RTÉ 2 (20.00) and Sky Sports 3 (21.30) have both highlights packages from the match on Saturday evening… but who can wait ’til then, right?
If you’ve an IP address in Northern Ireland (or anywhere in the UK), then you can watch online through the BBC iPlayer.
Or you could use your ears. Though RTÉ don’t have live TV coverage, the radio arm of the national broadcaster will have live commentary from Cardiff on RTÉ Radio 1.
WHY!? Why is this happening?
Sky Sports acquired the rights for Ireland’s home fixtures and all of England’s games in this warm-up series (so you can watch the remaining three pre-RWC games live on Sky).
Unlike the RFU and IRFU, the WRU struck a deal with the BBC that gave live rights of their two home games to BBC Wales. Just as we’re struggling to see this weekend’s game, that broadcaster will only be able to present late highlights when Sky’s rights kick in for the return fixture at Aviva Stadium on 29 August.
Solution
There are ways, rugby fans, *nods sagely* ways. If you have a Sky box you can go hunting for BBC One Wales and have it ready to go. Here’s how.
1. Go to ‘Options’ in your Sky menu and look for the ‘Add Channels’ tab
2. Here are the details you need to enter
This is courtesy of a516digital.com (which has more channel details you can browse right here)
Frequency: 10.788.
Polarisation: V
Symbol rate: 22.0
FEC: 5/6
DVB-S
QPSK.
You’ll type in the frequency using the keypad on your remote control, but the others can be selected by scrolling left or right when highlighting the field. Don’t worry about messing up the settings for your existing channels, the figures will correct themselves after you’ve done.
Hit the yellow button to start the search.
3. Select BBC One Wales from the menu
If you can’t see it on the list, try running step two again. Highlight BBC One Wales and hit the yellow button. Press select on your remote when you’ve finished adding channels.
4. BBC One Wales will now appear in the ‘Other Channels’ tab of your options menu
Happy watching.
(*There are other semi-legal options around the internet which we couldn’t possibly condone.)

Great detail Sir.. What time does it start at?
2.30pm.
big game?? ah come on now
It’s on at the same time as Man U v Spurs. No need for BBC Wales I’ll watch the highlights later on RTE … It’s only a friendly.
all android users go to Google and search for mobdro download it from the site. you can thank me later.
It’s a test not a friendly but go ahead watch an English club match over your national team
I plan on watching the English club match over the national team as I prefer soccer to rugby. Is that ok with you?
There are no friendlies in rugby….
@ very fond of
Its actually not on the same time as Man Utd v Spurs, kick off @ 12.45 as opposed to 2.30 for Ireland v Wales so if we want to be pedantic then it will clash a whole 5 minutes or so.
that app looks brilliant… got any others
Cheers for the MobDro tip..will test that out for the NFL later i the year when it comes back.
Nice one Sean. However even better is BBC Wales One HD – details available at end of link you posted. Note: you need to select 8PSK mode also.
All you might ever need. http://goo.gl/Xs0Cy8 with this http://youtu.be/XKgGscYxGGE
world sports servers another good one. turn off your app security settings and google it for a download. site is something like doctor – dance
Cheers Dave – looks like I’ll be watching both matches then and 2nd half of Bournemouth v A Villa when the rugby is over … Happy days !
if you prefer soccer don’t comment on a rugby feed..
James, what’s the difference between a test and a friendly? A friendly in International soccer counts towards your ranking also
Richard, mobdro don’t have bbc Wales :(
Calm down folks. BBC Wales is on free to air satellite, Ireland and UK. Completely legal.
Gordon – I said I prefer soccer – that doesn’t mean that I don’t like rugby. I’ll comment on whatever I like – if that’s alright with u.
Well done Sean, lots of detail, fair play to you ;)
Know of any pubs in Dub city showing it?
If you were all real Irish rugby fan you’d watch the game . Not watch spurs v Man U
Good app. Any more similar to it?
The Oval on Middle Abbey St will be showing it
I just tried what the article said and now my sky box “isn’t getting a signal” have reset it and nothing…… Cheers
No good if you have upc
BBC Wales isn’t on mobdro.
Well done Ronan Cadogan. Someone had to say it.
showbox
no such thing as a friendly!
Jaysis I’ve more channels than I thought I had!! I’ve never scrolled so far down me list to see BBC Wales 1+2 and all the BBC regions of the UK! Happy days!
God be with the day’s all we had was RTE1 and “the other side” lol
You can use the browser extension Hola (https://hola.org/) to watch BBC iPlayer. It’s free and super simple to use. If you do use it, I’d highly recommend uninstalling it after watching the game because they’ll sell your bandwidth if you keep it installed (http://www.theverge.com/2015/5/29/8685251/hola-vpn-botnet-selling-users-bandwidth).
Or http://www.filmon.com/channel/bbc-1-wales and no need for hola
id avoid hola folks, its considered malware by tech heads http://www.techspot.com/news/60828-popular-free-vpn-service-hola-dodgy.html use filmon.com instead
Thank God for the TV licence bringing us all the programming we love……. oh
Great! And what about us UPC subsc… oh… okay :(
If anyone has an iPad or iPhone download the free Film on Television App. That has bbc Wales
TV3 should be showing this. They are useless. Why would anybody consider watching the world cup with them.
For the Irish in the UK look at the Channels in the 900s. At present they are Channel 952 and 971.
It’s only a friendly let’s not get too excited about it not being on telly
With 74,000 odd fans attending?
It’s a test not a “friendly”
Come off it, Ireland and Wales is always going to worth watching.
A friendly is this Saturday’s game which is weeks away from the World Cup
No a friendly would have been the babas vs Ireland this is a test match.
But it is on telly!
No, a friendly in rugby does not award caps. This does.
We just have the sky free view channels and all the BBC channels are there so maybe just take the card out of box and it might work, not sure though so open to correction.
Don’t need a Skybox any Freesat box will have BBC Wales.
U can watch it if u have a sky box. All BBC channels are available
No flies on you ..
Hold on If I have a sky box do I have BBC Wales? I have BBC Alba and BBC Parliament. I can’t be dealing with IP numbers!! I might have to go the semi legal route come Saturday.
BBC One Wales should be in the upper regions of the 900 channels.
You know the ones you never, ever, ever go to …..
The mucky stuff that comes up in the 900 channels on MY Sky Box has only fleeting similarities to rugby. You can see a bit of tackle and that’s it.
952
952!
Do people still actually have sky and pay ridiculous amounts each month a few decent channels?
Nope, not me!!! Cancelled sky use the box as a free to air, over 250 channels! Bought a saorview box with hard drive so can record soaps!! Happy Days!!!
I always hoped there would be some advantages to taking the Queens shilling :-)
Tunnelbear solves the IP problems
If you’re using a sky box as a free to air its channel 952. NO CHARGE!!
Terri not a tech savvy person so how do you do this just by cancelling subscription?
Take out your sky card maybe?
Usagoals/rugby
You didn’t hear it from me
Try using hola dot org as been stated above or Hahasport.com to stream it
The rugby is always on tv in Wales
Damn straight! One the few countries where Rugby is the national sport.
BBC Wales is on saorview
No it isn’t. It is on Freeview which is the UK digital service which is only available in some areas along the east coast of Ireland.
On Freesat too which is available free everywhere.
You haven’t a clue if you think a BBC channel is on Saorview
It’s on the saorview box, if you have the satellite option, dancing boy. Better get the tin foil onto your maypole!
Your pathetic attempt at correcting me highlights your lack of knowledge even further. Saorview is a terrestrial system. That is received through an aerial. If you have a box capable of receiving both Saorview channels and satellite channels then what you have is a combi box.
So for anybody who read that post and thought they can get BBC Wales on their Saorview box, it was absolute nonsense.
Thank you for this
Thank you i am happy that i can see my Country playing not from an Irish channel but a Welch one, love Wales i lived in Newport for 6 months lovely people.
Now hope Sky do not spoil it for us as they did when i wanted to see BB on ITV.
I have a Triax saorview/combi free to air digibox which can record and store programmes via a 32 gig usb memory stick, so I can watch a rugby game while recording another programme.
Fair play Sean…thanks a mill!
Anybody know of any Pub’s in Dub City using Black Magic to air the match??
can the same procedure be done on UPC?
Excellent lads cheers for the heads up – added
Or to save all that hassle you could just watch from dozens of streams online.
Very helpful information. Thank you.
How do I do this on UPC??,Thanking you in advance..
So bloody what’s the problem?. Motor sport is never shown on our public supported channel . Results are not given. So get over it be thankful for the times it is shown.
Freesat has all the BBC regions and all the itv regions
It’s on BBC 1 for anyone in Switzerland
its on bein sports(formally known as setanta sports) in australia
Hotspot shield is an app which you can use for vpn anytime you’re using a public wifi service to secure your traffic, however the pro version allows you set your country to UK, USA, or a few others. There’s versions of it for android, iOS and OSX . I use it on my MacBook regularly to access bbc iPlayer.
It’s being televised here in Australia so ye will be able to get a good stream
Wales vs Ireland Live Streaming Video Rugby : http://www.officialtvstream.com.es/passport/go.php?r=4768&i=l19
Channel 952 on free to air satellite, i.e. Take out sky card
Anyone else getting a no signal found message when searching for the channel? Any possible fixes?
