COUNCILLOR ANNE DEVITT has resigned from the Fine Gael party.
Fine Gael confirmed the news tonight, noting that Cllr Devitt had been due to appear before the party’s Disciplinary Committee.
In the most recent Mahon Tribunal report, it was stated that Cllr Devitt had behaved “inappropriately”.
It was of the view that Cllr Devitt’s actions in taking on a role in the Cargobridge planning application process from 1994 to 1997, together with an agreement that she would be paid for this role, “compromised the requirement on her as an elected representative to perform her duties in a disinterested manner”.
In effect, Cllr Devitt, a local councillor, in anticipation or expectation of reward, assisted the Cargobridge consortium in its ultimately successful planning application. The Tribunal was of the view that Cllr Devitt’s actions, in agreeing to act for financial reward, for the advancement of matters the outcome of which rested in the decision-making powers of the Council of which she was a member, were entirely inappropriate.
Cllr Devitt told the Irish Times following the publication of the report that her conscience was clear and she disagreed with the findings of the Mahon Tribunal.
Pádraig Flynn and Bertie Ahern have both resigned from the Fianna Fáil party in the wake of the tribunal’s latest report.

Cllr Devitt is one of the local representatives in my area and the things she tried to bring in – from bypasses through housing estates and phone masts beside schools, she is an absolute disgrace. I’m glad she’s been held to some account for the disgraceful carry on that she has been up to.

FFg//Labour and FFailure all identified in the Mahon report as being caught with their hands in the cookie jar… Commentators will still be “aghast” and “shocked”. FFg caught out clearly by the Moriarty tribunal, and everyone is “aghast” and “shocked”. Gilmores wife gets paid 500k for a piece of land worth 38k, that has never been used for anything since they got the money 3 years ago, and everyone is “aghast” and “shocked”. Enda Kenny paid himself an extra 50k per year (Tax payer money) on top of his TD salary, ministerial pension, Dail allowances, because FFg/FF passed a Dail bill allowing him to do it. While not criminally wrong, it is so immoral on so many levels.

It’s interesting that you would think that. It’s only within the last couple of decades that scientific research has proven conclusively, that two, to three per cent of people, are indeed born without a conscience. In trying to understand financial abuse, sexual abuse, political abuse and any other forms of social abuse, you need look no further.

Personally, I think this issue is the mammoth in the room and that very little will change, until we are all broadly educated regarding the existence of these parasites within our societies. Perhaps if we bring in legislation to prevent these people from holding positions of power and influence, we might have a chance of changing our country.

We need more women in politics, because everything would be better with quotas and there would be no corruption and more honesty. Oh wait, that BS, see above. The system is corrupt and thats cross-gender. Only action from the DPP and a referendum to remove their entitlements will assist in stopping this happening again, nothing else.

Following the Publication of the Mahon Tribunal Report… I Believe over 1.460.000 People Who have not Registered ( WELL DONE ONE AND ALL ) and every Law Abiding Citizen Here in Ireland have the Right to Request The Gardai, Our Criminal Assets Bureau to Enter the Dail,, Their Clinic’s, Their Office’s, Their Meeting Schedules, Their Blackberries and everyone and everything associated with them investigated and placed either under Open/House Arrest for their despicable manner for the way they they are TREATING US. Labelling us as Criminals even before anyone goes to Court.
How can anyone believe a WORD that comes out of their mouths.

I would imagine she and O Reilly got planning permission without any trouble for the nursing home? Between Labour councillors and FG they have more to answer for than FF.
What exactly is the punishment here when we consider the example of Beverly Flynn who resigned from FF then rejoined, was expelled, then re elected as independent then rejoined party?
Fast forward to the making of the most recent Fingal Development Plan & Cllr McDevitt FG was up to her old tricks, busy promoting inappropriate & unsustainable re-zonings. Thankfully the 2010 amendments to the Planning & Development Act stopped the majority of her proposals. I wonder will FG actually punish those mentioned in Mahon, after all they did nothing when their Cllrs (amongst others) blatantly admitted to promoting inappropriate re-zonings on a Prime Time Investigates programme a couple of years ago. If Mahon covered the 26 counties there would be many Cllr McDevitt’s from a variety of parties mentioned. Planning corruption & inappropriate planning is by no means a Dublin Centric problem, which has been highlighted by the previous Minister for the Environment calling in a number of Development Plans for excessive & inappropriate land zonings e.g. Monaghan, Ennis, etc. This & indeed specific complaints resulted in Min John Gormley commencing Planning Investigations but they were stopped by Min Phil Hogan. These investigations must be re-instated in order to establish the real extent of the problem & to ensure planning corruption is stamped out once and for all.

@Frankie Faldo. If mother Teresa had murdered a child we’d call her a murderer, irrespective of how many she had helped. If Nelson Mandela raped someone we’d call him a rapist. Thats the real world. This person, as a finding of fact, engaged in corruption. She is corrupt. You cannot balance out such wrongdoings by saying she has done work for charity. Many of us do, we dont take bribes in doing it.
This person has had previous interactions with a family member of mine and they thought she was nice, I’ve never met her but that family member and I both agree you have to pay for your actions. Resigning is not paying, judicial sanction is.

The issue is that she hasn’t been held accountable at all. None of them have. Her resignation should be rejected, she should be mad appear before the Disciplinary Committee and the she should be fired or sacked from the party. FF should do the same with Messrs. Ahern & Flynn.

All the politicians … who were named in Mahon tribunal, their pensions should be taken from them, and a day to trial and charged, judge these perpetrator’s who have all been involved in a huge corruption, and and lied, tax, fraud, cheater’s, who were suppose to be our politician Leaders and TDS, to show good example to the future younger generation and be a good, honest role model of a leader in Ireland, unfortunate it all boiled down to heed for their own needs, selfish bastards, I hope that they suffer and get what’s coming to them, FG leader” should call to re- open the Mahon tribunal case and bring these people to justice, for corruption and crimes that each and every named person in the Mahon trial case. That’s right! Their backs must be well scratched by now! People wonder why O’Reilly went into politics? As a family doctor and I am sure he has some kind of pension he’s been payinng, he’d do ok in his retirement. But….. as a TD/Minister who only has to ‘serve’ a few years, ends up with huge money.
aherne, flynn, etc. etc. etc. are not the only ones laughing at us, albeit from Nigeria today!
