€10,000 worth of smuggled wine seized at Dublin Port

The 660 litres of wine were in a van that had arrived from France via Holyhead.

REVENUE OFFICERS STOPPED and searched a van at Dublin Port yesterday, and found hundreds of litres of smuggled wine inside.

The van had arrived in Ireland from France via Holyhead in Wales.

The 660 litres of wine had an estimated retail of €10,000.

Revenue said that the potential loss to the exchequer was around €5,600.

The driver was questioned by officers, and investigations are said to be ongoing.

Yesterday’s seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing efforts to tackle the illegal importation, supply and sale of alcohol in what it referred to in a statement as the “shadow economy”.

It urged businesses or members of the public who have any information regarding the smuggling or sale of illegal alcohol to contact Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295.

Where is the evidence that speed kils?

@Aidan C: it’s a contributing factor, a major one. If you drive at walking speed you’re unlikely to kill someone, you drive at 100km/hr you’re highly likely to kill someone and yourself. The crash is the symptom, and you will always have crashes, they’re unpredictable. Say you knew with 100% you were going to have a crash in your car this one time you took your car out, 100% a crash…. Inescapable, it’s gonna happen. But you have to make the journey. Would you drive at 80km/hr or say, 30km/hr for that one journey? I’d probably drive at 5km/hr. But it doesn’t work like that, as we know.

No mention that this is the same piano used by many artists, including Freddie at Live Aid. Giz a job – I can do that.
