A GARDA INVESTIGATION has been launched after a serious public order incident happened on the M50 motorway this evening.

The incident happened at about 6.20pm between Junctions 9 (the Red Cow) and 10 (Ballymount) on the motorway’s northbound carriageway.

How such an incident managed to transpire on a motorway is not known.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed that “a number of people” became involved in an altercation, which led to serious injuries being inflicted on one man.

He was taken to Tallaght Hospital where he remains with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

A second man was also injured, but refused medical attention and left the scene in a silver Kia Sedona car.

Traffic was seriously disrupted for at least 40 minutes on the motorway, which is Dublin’s busiest traffic route.

Gardaí in Tallaght are “eager” to speak to any person who might have dashcam footage of the incident, the spokesperson said.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident in any was is asked to contact Tallaght Garda station on 01 6666000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111, or any Garda station.
