THE HEALTH SERVICE Executive has released a statement regarding the death of 8-year-old Anthony Ward in Charleville, Co Cork.

The HSE said it was undertaking a “comprehensive review of its involvement” with the family of Diane and Anthony Ward prior to the discovery of Anthony’s body in his home this morning. It added:

HSE South, Console (24hr freephone helpline number 1800 201 890 ) and other agencies will provide appropriate support, assistance and counselling to those affected by the incident.

Anthony Ward was found dead at his home at Harrison Place in Charleville at around 9.30am today. He had been due to start back at his local primary school today.

Gardaí say they are investigating all circumstances surrounding the death, which is being treated as a “tragic incident”. A post-mortem is being carried out on the child’s body after State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster arrived at the scene earlier today.

Diane Ward, Anthony’s 43-year-old mother, has been taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment.

Nothing about how the Valencian President, Carlos Marzón, is only accepting help from regions currently governed by his party, PP and actively refusing all other support? He refused fire fighters from Cataluña. This isn’t stuff you can skate over and not mention.

@Colm Corcoran: Cannot see that in other news media, even from Spain. Do you have a verifiable source?

@MikeW: El Pais reports clearly that the PO president in Valencia has not declared the maximum emergency level available under legislation, and that the Defence Ministry said on Friday they were saddened that the call for their help didn’t arrive earlier. It also reports how Marzón has avoided to take direct charge of the handling of the rescue/aid operation, which would involve coordinating aid requests from the rest of Spain. Given how government is organised in Spain, the central government would only take charge if the Valencian government requests it. Fat chance with a PP president.

Socialism in practice, unfortunately socialism in theory doesn’t quite work.

@Jessie Pinkman: I wasn’t thinking about politics tbh. It’s hard to define politics in in the context of this disaster. I suppose any comment about anything can be construed as political.
It’s climate change, it’s el Nino, it’s warm air meeting cold air, it’s unlucky, it’s what ever your having yourself. It’s political.
Time for the human race to grow up.

@If you’re: what’s socialism got to do with anything? The regional government in Valencia is a coalition of the P.P. and far right Vox who are climate change deniers among other attributes.

@If you’re: wrong. Right wing government in practice, which is what the PP is, as the governing party in Valencia.

@Jessie Pinkman: he’s completely wrong. The governing party in Valencia is PP (right wing) with Vox (ultra right wing). Could literally not be any more wrong.

It will take an age to get it sorted . The Spanish government are slow and don’t care about anyone . These storms happen every year but this was the worst . Take out the tourism and Spain is a third world country .
I lived there for 8 years. So I know what I am talking about .
