UPDATE: One person hospitalised after Drumcondra road crash

Gardaí say there is still traffic congestion at the site as the N1/Swords Road remains closed.

Updated 11.38

ONE PERSON HAS been taken to hospital following a serious road crash in Dublin this morning.

Gardaí from Santry are at the scene at Griffith Avenue to investigate the collision involving a motorcyclist and another vehicle. The incident occurred at about 6.45am today.

The motorcyclist was taken to hospital but no update on his condition has been made available. It is understood that the driver of the car escaped unhurt.

It was a very busy morning in Dublin with a number of incidents creating traffic build-ups across the city.

The junction at Drumcondra and Griffith Avenue was totally blocked in all directions this morning after a serious crash.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use alternative routes.

AA Roadwatch says that the N1/Swords Road is closed inbound at Griffith Avenue. Diversions are in place via Collins Avenue, Grace Park Road and Richmond Road. Delays remain from before the Port Tunnel. There is restricted access from Ballymun Road to Griffith Avenue to ease congestion on the N1. Outbound traffic on the Swords Road is moving well at this stage.

Dublin Bus has warned passengers in the area of delays. The company said customers in both Swords and Santry will be affected. Inbound routes are using Collins Avenue, Gracepark Road and then back on route via Richmond Road. Outbound routes are using Griffith Avenue to Ballymun Road onto Collins Avenue before hitting the normal route.

There were also delays reported on the M50 southbound at junction six Blanchardstown due to a separate collision. On the northbound M50, from junction four Finglas to junction five Ballymun, a breakdown caused a build-up of traffic. Traffic is now moving well both ways.
