Pair who make 'weird' bespoke costumes in demand for festival season

‘Hook & Eye’ was started by fashion graduate Lauralee Guiney and artist Delphine Libelula – and reckon their costumes could brighten up a night out.

“WEIRD, CURIOUS AND unexpected,” is how Dublin’s latest small business start-up describes themselves.

Hook & Eye is a unique, bespoke costume business owned by fashion graduate Lauralee Guiney and artist Delphine Libelula.

“Our concept was to make abstract bespoke costumes that are completely customised and made to order,” Lauralee Guiney told TheJournal.ie. “The are the total opposite of what you might find in a fancy dress shop.”

Guiney explained that “many people spend a lot of time making costumes for nights out and festivals”. They both thought they could hone in on this market as they were interested in it and had the skills set required.

They do not work full-time but have been “very busy” with orders for summer festivals.

“It was crazy for Body and Soul and Longitude,” explains Guiney. “We also have a lot of orders coming in for Electric Picnic – we actually have a stall there this year, where we will give people their costumes, dress them and do their make-up.”

Guiney said the costumes can be worn on “any night of the week, if you want to feel differently” and she does not think people would be embarrassed to wear them: “It’s for people want to stand put from the crowd.”

“It’s a great way to meet people too, as they will approach you and ask why you are dressed up,” she explained.

Here are some of the costumes designed and made by Hook & Eye:
