Anti-wind farms protest takes place in Mullingar

A Labour TD said he believed that around 1,500 people attended the event.

A PROTEST AGAINST the building of wind farms in the midlands took place in Mullingar today.

Labour TD Willie Penrose was among those who attended, and told TheJournal.ie that he believed around 1,500 people were present at the gathering.

He said that the participants walked from St Paul’s Church on Delvin Road to Market Square. Penrose was one of those who contributed during the speeches at the protest.

Penrose said that the people attending were concerned about the plans by two companies to put in place wind turbines in the midlands, across five counties.

He has published a bill related to wind turbines in Ireland. The TD said his views represented those of all the Labour Party members in Longford and Westmeath.

One of the other speakers at the event was from Tyrone, and Penrose said “this is an all-Ireland issue by the looks of things”.

He added that it is “about time the authorities woke up” on the issue and described the situation with wind farms in Ireland as a “fallacy”.

Penrose also encouraged wind turbine companies to meet with locals on the issue.

RIP young man – will be interesting to see if this goes any further ? Did he have a genetic predisposition to cardiac/coronary disease or was it a result of external factors?
