LEAVING CERTIFICATE STUDENTS have been urged not to get completely wasted after they collect their results tomorrow.
Results for 53,749 students will be available on Wednesday morning, and parents and alcohol awareness lobbying groups have urged teenagers to celebrate responsibly.
“We’re conscious that a significant number of Leaving Cert students are of legal drinking age and drink alcohol, and will most likely want to celebrate their results with a few drinks,” said Fionnuala Sheehan of drinkaware.ie. “But it can be easy to get caught up in the excitement of the night and end up overdoing it.”
She called on students to take measures – such as eating before they drink, drinking water, and avoiding rounds – to stay in control of how much they drink.
The National Parents’ Council singled out students who don’t do as well as they were expecting. ”Remember that alcohol improves neither the good nor the bad in a situation,” said Jackie O’Callaghan of the National Parents’ Council. “There are always options”.

For the all the unreasonable importance the state attaches to the LC, they should at least be allowed one night ferality.
Seriously, the people who are suggesting that the students should not be getting wasted on Leaving Cert night, what did they do on Leaving cert night?… I got pissed.

Nothing really. I was actually pretty wrecked because it had been stressful waiting for the results so I just went out and um, got mildly drunk. Nothing too embarrassing (except for my clothes, which, looking back now, were MORTIFYING).
Best of luck to all receiving results…. Hopefully most will have a good night and not end up making life changing decisions when under the influence.

That’s not dyslexia, that’s just not knowing the difference between 2 words that sound the same but have different spellings.
Dyslexia would cause you to spell it like “witres” or similar.
Don’t pull the human writes card this early in the mourning.
No actually Cormac you can mix up words and grammar with dyslexia. Not just mix up letters: I am dyslexic and letters don’t affect me but words get mixed up. Dyslexia can also affect your short term memory. At least that’s what I was told when diagnosed.

Drinkaware might as well have said to go get wasted on results night. It’s in drinkaware’s interest to encourage drinking so headlines like that have the opposite effect!
If the state offered a subsidy to Oz most would take that instead of staying here and getting wasted.

Levels of results are generally invertly proportional to levels of intoxication.
I know the police have a lot to do but I think if they had some time they should ring around the pubs and warn them not to serve underage kids drinks and keep an eye on the door men as well
