A PARIS SUBURB has come up with an innovative plan to fight a plague of dog droppings on local streets — catching offenders on closed-circuit television cameras.
The commuter town of Montereau-Fault-Yonne southeast of Paris said Monday that municipal police would begin using a decade-old network of CCTV cameras to track down dog owners who don’t pick up their pets’ droppings.
“This will allow us to identify and seek out pet owners with no sense of civic duty and, in the event of repeat offences, to fine them” €35, town mayor Yves Jego told AFP.
“I would not have installed cameras for this,” he said, but “we have an existing network that we can use for other services.”
He said using the cameras against irresponsible dog owners was no different from filming traffic offenders and was not an invasion of privacy because “we are not filming people at home”.

Proper order. It’s not hugely difficult to carry a roll of bags and pick up the dog’s poo and put it in a bin. (The only problem is that you often have to walk too long a way before you find a bin.)
I wish they would do that around here. Going for a walk is like going through a stinky obstacle course and its not unusual to see a pair of shoes sitting outside someone’s front door in disgrace for tangling with their foul foe.
It will use fecal recognition technology ;-)

Got asked during the week why I was picking it up by another dog owner, some people are just oblivious to the nuisance of it.
I also see people picking it up into a plastic bag, and then throwing that into the hedge!

I see that happening all the time. But the lack of bins is a big factor(still no excuse)
Its not that difficult to teach a dog to poo on command. Works best on pups that are being house trained.
My cocker spaniel will poo in the garden before we head for a walk with a simple “poo” command. I can clean it up and go knowing he wont poo on the street.i still always carry a bag just to be sure.
P O Leary. My collie does the same thing, poo’s on command.. I carry a pooper scooper all the same though when walking him. Those that don’t clean up after there dogs are giving the rest of us a bad name.. It’s not fair and I’d love to see those people fined!
Yes joan. If only people would spend time to train dogs some of these simple commands.
But I guess if someone cannot be bothered to pick up dog poo then I would guess they couldnt be bothered training there dog.
My 3 year old slipped in dog poo ( in a kids playground) and she had it on her legs hands and back…. If I knew who it was that didn’t pick up the poo, I wld go to their house, poo in tow and smear it on their face and smack them! I have a dog and I will always pick up bobby’s poo and throw it in a bin!!! Otherwise u deserve to be smacked in the chops!

Anyone who’s been to Paris knows that the dog merde situation is WAY worse than anywhere here! However, really annoying when I constantly pick up after my little dog only to have to avoid bigger dog piles everywhere, so would be nice to have fines enforced here.
Agree but only last night I sent an email to my local coco to complain about how few bins there are, especially around the centre of the town which is filthy! It really is like working your way around an obstacle course! I fecking hate being one of the few to pick it up and am then left carrying it around in a bag! Unless they provide more bins I don’t think think people will start picking it up after themselves

Now that the government has all this funding coming in from property tax you can expect it will be used to supply more public bins, libraries are also getting an upgrade and public street lighting aswell.

It’s a suburb. Small population. Photos given to wardens to confront them later then issue fines.

God, the dog crap around Pearse Street, Dublin is worth a mention. I have to walk with the pram on the road sometimes to avoid it! Absolutely disgusting! If you want a dog, clean up after it. That simple.
Plus, I seen a blind man clean up after his guide dog recently while less than 50 yards another man allowed his dog do his business without cleaning it up. Now if that doesn’t shame your into it, nothing will.

Well @paul. Maybe a bit of help and encouragement to change his ways instead of the usual tripe on here of ganging up and personally insulting someone.
It’s also dangerous. If a child is out playing in the park and gets some dog or cat muck on their hand unknowingly and gets it near their eyes they can get the toxocara worm. This can lead to blindness. I have a friend who is blind in one eye and partially in the other because it happened to her as a child. So it’s not just the unsightly smelly obstacle course that’s the issue here. You and your pet could be responsible for a child going irreversibly blind.

Always pick up after our little guy. It annoys me when people don’t. In fairness everywhere we walk around Co. Limerick provides bins. Most owners where we walk pick it up but it only takes a small amount of irresponsible owners to make a mess.
Nothing to do with being a dog owner, its about being disrespectful of our parks and beauty areas. There are people without dogs who leave behind nappys, cans, rubbish in these areas too.
The whole attitude comes from poor parenting where you see kids littering tolerated by parents and the cycle continues.
I will add to the comment! I see dogs in numbers been walked every single say, I see dogs dirty every single day and with no exaggeration I have not seen one person pick up dog shit

As my mother used to say about litter louts ‘their houses are probably spotless’. It’s all about respect and regard for others. My dog has had her paws lacerated by broken glass in O’Callaghan park in Glanmire, Co. Cork and there’s also plenty of dog owners who use the park as their dog’s toilet. It’s such a shame.
