Firefighters tackle blaze at storage factory in Waterford

Eight fire units and five garda units are at the scene at Belview Port in Waterford.

EIGHT FIRE UNITS are dealing with a fire at Belview Port in Waterford today. An ambulance and five garda units are also at the scene.

The fire broke out at a storage factory this morning on the Belview Link Road on the N29. According to gardai, everyone has been evacuated from the area and 200 metres around the factory site has been cordoned off  ”purely for safety reasons”.

The gardai confirmed that there are a  number of diesel tanks on the factory site and these have gone up in flames, which is the emergency units primary concern.

Fire units and emergency services are still at the scene, but Waterford city gardaí state that the port and port road is still in operation.

No one has been injured during the incident.

    Photo of a DFB tender?

We do know what a fire engine looks like. How about you use one of a Waterford tender or Belview port.

They’d surely know where they are located, wouldn’t they?

There’s a plant there, that makes and stores huge amounts of timber board. It could be one of the warehouses around it. It is in Co. Kilkenny as is the container port.

Not connected to the chipboard factory, but was a fertiliser storage facility by all accounts. Fire-brigade from several districts involved and did a great job dealing with this.
