Pics: Owls and tigers and frogs get weighed... oh my!

Tammy the anteater was also among the animals that had their weights checked during the annual weigh-in at London Zoo today.

IT’S WEIGH-IN time at London Zoo – and not every animal is happy about it.

In fact, one owl looked a little put out that it had to have a public weigh-in, as you’ll see in our slideshow below.

However, Max the Eurasian eagle owl had to put up with the annual weigh-in at Regents Park, as he wasn’t the only animal being put through the process.

From snakes to tigers, the zoo had to use unusual means to find out their weight.  Jae Jae, the Sumatran Tiger, was measured by staff who held up his breakfast so that he would stretch to full height.

Tammy the anteater, meanwhile, was able to chow down on her mealworm breakfast after her successful weigh in.

The creatures’ measurements were taken so that they could be recorded in the Zoological Information Management System (ZIMS) at the zoo.

Can’t blame them. No one wants to be weighed in public and have their weigh recorded for all to see. Humiliating .

A lot of what zoos do now is conservation and breeding programmes. It’s not just for looking at animals. I agree that London Zoo needs improving

In this day and age when we think of our selves as civilised, there is no need for these animals/reptiles/birds/ etc to be kept in any kind of captivity, it’s not right. THey always look so sad especially intelligent gorilla’s and chimpanzees and not to mention live animal circus’ which I know is a whole other ball game

You cannot put zoos in the same bracket as a circus. Until humans learn to stop damaging habitats and poaching zoos serve a vital role in species conservation. It would be great if they didn’t have to exist but until we learn to control ourselves they are the only hope for many critically endangered creatures.
