Still hoping to go to Electric Picnic? Hop on your saddle

The Stradbally festival has sold out for the first time since 2008. But if you’re fit enough you can still get in by cycling from Dublin to Laois.

THE ELECTIC PICNIC has officially sold out, the promoters confirmed earlier today. 35,000 people are expected to attend next weekend’s tenth anniversary EP, headlined by the likes of Fatboy Slim, Bjork and former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant.

There are no plans to release any more tickets for the Stradbally event, a spokesperson for the festival told TheJournal.ie. However, anyone who’s up to the challenge can still gain access to the site for the weekend by signing up for the Tour De Picnic – an 80km cycle to the festival starting at Dublin’s Tallaght Stadium.

Anyone wishing to take part will have to raise €380, and will be granted an weekend pass once they arrive. The event has raised over €500,000 for charity over the last five years. For the less energetic, a 10km run has been added to the fundraising initiative this year. There are limited places on the Tour De Picnic still remaining as of this evening,

This year’s festival is the first to sell out since 2008. A special loyalty scheme, introduced to mark the its tenth birthday is one factor that’s likely to have boosted interest: up till 27 May, anyone who had been on three previous occasions could buy a ticket for €149.50. The last of the full price tickets, costing €229.50, sold out this morning.

Stage construction was continuing at the festival site today, and the plan is to have the majority of fixtures in place ahead of the media preview of the 60 acre site next Tuesday.

Promoters are promising a return of all the usual attractions, including the ever-popular Body & Soul Arena, the Salty Dog stage, the reggae-themed Trenchtown, the spoken-word Mindfield area, and the Comedy Stage.

How can one win an architecture award just on good location? The Kilsallagh one and the Marconi station are just good locations with nothing of architectural interest.

Most of them are hidious (especailly the modern ones) and completely impractical, (flat roofs in Ireland just means the designer has no grasp on reality) Are the older better quality desgins going to the original designers, or the nesw ones whove just stuck a few panes of glass in and cleaned the stonework?
