ComReg find against Meteor over e-bill contract changes

The Commission for Communications Regulation has found that Meteor did not give the customers adequate details on withdrawing from contract following changes.

METEOR HAS THREE weeks to respond to a request from the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) to comply with rules on contract changes.

Meteor recently introduced paperless billing for its customers but ComReg has said that the mobile provider failed to give their customers adequate information about the change.

To implement the new e-bills Meteor made some changes to its service contracts and ComReg rules dictate that the company is required to advise subscribers of their right to withdraw without penalty from the contract if they do not accept the proposed changes.

ComReg today notified Meteor that this was not adequately completed in this case and has three weeks to either respond to the finding or remedy the problem before legal action becomes an option.

The move to paperless billing by providers has become a regular occurrence in recent times with Meteor’s parent group Eircom also facing criticism for groups representing older people for the introduction of the practice.

Does this mean I can get out of my contract now? I’m sick of my €45 plan actually costing me €60-€75 per month

My partner is in the same boat. Has a plan of € 60 and was promised this was for unlimited use yet the last 3 bills have been €80/90. And he doesn’t use the fone nearly as much as I do. Im with o2 and I’m stuck to my fone constantly yet my bill never goes over 40. Somethin wrong somewhere! ! Also they renewed his contract without him knowin about it. He went in looking for an upgrade a while ago knowing his contract was up around then only to be told he’d have to wait another year as his contract had only been renewed the previous month yet he hadn’t been near a store in months. Absolute bunch of cowboys!

They were great when they first started out, but since Eircom bought them – forget it.. Customer service is non existent and the prices are becoming more like Eircom prices – as in, their marketing team think its a great idea – the reality is that their competitors are wiping the floor with them..

    Eh, not they didn’t!

It was originally setup by a consortium lead by US company Western Wireless (Alltel) with RF Communications and TWG Ireland as minority shareholders. Western Wireless bought them out and it was 100% owned by them.

They put it up for sale in 2005 and eircom bought it so it could re-enter the mobile market.

You need to contact meteor and tell them that they changed the terms of your contract without the consent of both parties. Therefore the contract has been breached and can be declared null and void. In addition because meteor breached the contract they may owe you the amount it would have cost to buy out the contract
