AN ARMY BOMB disposal team rendered safe a viable explosive device in Longford in the early hours of this morning.
The Defence Forces were called to the scene of the improvised explosive device near a private residence in Lisafarrell by gardaí. Road closures were put in place and the bomb disposal team arrived at 11.40pm.
After an initial assessment, the device was confirmed as viable and was made safe at the scene without the need for a controlled explosion. The scene was declared safe at 1.50 am.
All component parts and evidence were handed over to the gardaí to assist them with their investigation into the incident.

I’m tired of retired members of the Republican Movement putting their skill up for sale to the criminal gangs who then put the lives of our Defence Forces at risk on nearly a weekly basis. These animals should crawl back into their slime.
I’m also quite positive that Sinn Fein would have access to intelligence that could nail these guys in the morning but I suppose we couldn’t expect these slightly Constitutional folks to do their duty as citizens. After all we still have massive pollution along our Border from washed diesel waste and millions of cigarettes are smuggled into the State .

You are unreal.what makes you think Sinn Fein know these people anymore than ff or fg would. Typical uneducated comment. And most of the cigarettes smuggled in to this country come from non nationals. How many of them have you ever seen smoking Irish bought cigarettes? I have nothing against them but they know how to play the system. Open your eyes before you open your mouth and share silly comments here.
By all accounts drug related. Apparently from a couple of groups that ‘feud’ a lot but are never mentioned in the same sentence as drug dealers by the media.
