AN UNLIKELY COALITION of independent senators, including one of the Taoiseach’s nominees, and Fianna Fáil were at the count result centre in Dublin Castle today to toast their successful campaign for a No vote.
As the returning officer announced the 51.7 per cent to 48.3 per cent result in favour of the No side there were cheers and very little sign of anyone from the government side, which of course wanted a Yes vote.

@Keith Grant: people should be accountable for what they say when they make statements in a venue like that. Saying something amongst people you know and having statements broadcast across a country aren’t the same thing. She can say what she likes in either case, but when it’s being broadcast their needs to be accountability.
I know it’s tiresome, but Trump got elected by saying whatever he wanted – unchallenged.

I didn’t hear this broadcast but I would have thought that driving holes in human traffickers boats to prevent then setting sail would actually save lives. As for Hopkins she is just ensuring her own career by venting such opinions and getting the MSN reaction. There should be no such laws to deal with hate-speech. It is my right to hate you, as its your right to hate me – for whatever reason that may be – but I can assure you I am quite lovely.
We have laws in place that already deal with situations involving calls to violence or defamation.
Free speech is always free speech. Even when its hate speech. Peoples views should always be challanged even if they are in the right. Calling people facists biggots isnt the way to go. However having an informed well thought out discussion and debate on issues such as immigration and refugees among other issues should be welcomed. All sides of each argument should be given the spotlight.
Katie Hopkins knows how to play to the lowest common denominator and to the most ignoble element of human nature.
She is a true “bottom feeder”.
