Search for missing man off Howth coast stood down

The man’s body has still not been recovered after he was seen in the water yesterday evening.

THE SEARCH FOR a man who got into difficulty off the coast of Howth, Dublin, yesterday evening has been stood down this morning.

A search was launched by the Coast Guard and local lifeboat crew just after 7pm yesterday evening when a woman reported seeing a man jump into the water at Balscadden Bay.

Crews resumed the search at 6am this morning with the Coast Guard helicopter also involved but a spokesperson told TheJournal.ie that this was stood down at around 8am.

“There’s only so far you can go, they didn’t find anything when they searched at low tide and there was nothing found by the lifeboat, the Coast Guard unit or the helicopter,” they said.

It is understood that a garda dive unit will now be called in to take over.

Ulster looked a lot better tonight. They’re obviously far from the finished product but it’s a positive sign that they can string together more than five consecutive phases in attack. That young academy scrum-half Conor McKee was very good and his kicking from the base of the ruck was very accurate all match. Stewart Moore was excellent at fullback again and set the platform the Ulster backs by winning the contest in the air from kicks excellently. I cannot be stated enough how much Ulster needed this win. After losing 8 out their last 10 matches, it was crucial that they got any sort of victory tonight to keep their chances of making the URC knockout stages alive and they managed to do that. Even though I’m a Leinster supporter, I’ll still cheer for Ulster whenever they play anyone else.
