Council: water will take time to come back - and may look cloudy

People in Dublin have been warned that their water may look brown, orange or yellow when the supply is switched back on in the morning.

PEOPLE HIT BY the disruptions to the water supply have been warned that their water may look brown, yellow or cloudy when it comes back.

Residents in Dublin, Wicklow and Kildare have also been told that their water will not come back on immediately after the restrictions end each morning following complaints by some people living in the greater Dublin area this morning when their water didn’t come back at 7am.

Dublin City Council said that residents living closest to the affected valves will get their water back first. “We may turn the water back on at 7am but it will take time to travel through the distribution system,” the Council said in a statement.

It also warned that water may look white and cloudy or else brown, orange or yellow.

The white or cloudy appearance is caused by air in the water, and it doesn’t have any effect on how safe the water is to drink, the Council said. The discolouration is also down to the current disruption and should be fixed within an hour or two of the water supply returning.

“If it persists, you can clear the system by running the affected tap for two to three minutes,” the Council said.

The four local authorities in the greater Dublin area are curtailing the water supply between 8pm and 7am until at least Monday due to a serious production problem at Ballymore Eustace Water Treatment Plant.

    Alan,
During the celtic tiger years Limerick/Shannon were second to Dublin for GNP and for taxes raised, very little of that tax went back in to Limerick/Shannon.

These are facts that are verified by the CSO (google cso, you’ll find out what it is)

Limerick/Shannon subsidized the regeneration of Ballymun, finglas, etc.
Money from Aer riannta international, a Shannon company was used to build Terminal 2.

Ireland is no longer tribal and as thibgs stand the majority of infrastructure is paid for by the ~40% of population and majority of businesses that reside in the Dublin Metropolitan Area.

Is this problem of water purification associated with the autumn overturn in the lakes feeding the pumping station ? The water in large lakes undergo a natural seasonal stratification which is essential to keep them clean and this can result in large amounts of minute particles of decayed vegetation mixing into the water column. It happens twice a year but seems to be a problem right now, have they introduced new processes?

I don’t buy this “wrong type of water” malarkey one bit.

And they seem to be confusing their argument going on about the Shannon when there is no shortage of water – what they need is another treatment works it seems.

Pat Kenny and other journo’s seem to be doing a very bad job of getting to the facts of the matter. If there is a scientific reason I’d like to hear it please rather than the spoonfed idiotic interviews we seem to get on this so far.

Maybe The Journal could do a bit of actual reporting and get some facts in print on the issue. Re-posted press release journalism isn’t real journalism IMHO – getting a bit fed up with it.
