Gilmore 'very proud' of 'courageous' Labour members who've stuck with the party

The Tánaiste was responding to news of a third resignation from Labour’s group of councillors in three days.

TÁNAISTE AND LABOUR leader Eamon Gilmore has said he is “very proud” of the “overwhelming majority” of public representatives in the party who have stuck with it over the past two-and-a-half years.

Speaking in Dublin earlier today, Gilmore said that while he “regrets” anybody resigning from the party, Labour has had a “very difficult job of work to do”.

He was responding to the resignation of three councillors from the party this week, bringing to 26 the total number who have left Labour as a result of its actions in government, or nearly 10 per cent of its total number of councillors.

He told the media: “The job of work we have to do, and that we had to do, from the day this government was formed, was to bring about economic recovery, to take this country back from the edge that it was on.

“It’s been a very difficult job and I am very proud of the overwhelming majority of the public representatives of the Labour Party – TDs and councillors and members of my party – that have stood with that task very courageously over the course of the past two-and-a-half years.

He said that the mandate from the Irish people was to fix the economy and said that Labour intends to see that task through, adding that the country’s economy has been stabilised and turned around since the coalition came to power.

@John Fairclough: I think you’ll find she forever more had a clean peaceful house, with no football on the TV, no dirty socks on the floor and lived even more happily ever after than he did.

It all started on one of those dark dismal days, clouds hung over the sleepy village ,threatening their menace at any minute.. Patrick walked through the deserted main street, up past the old ruins beside Mcgintys pub…”should I go in” he asks himself…the cold wind picking up and whipping the turf smoke from the pub up through the town..”maybe I will, later” …”after I come back down from voting Sinn Fein and pissing off FG and FF ….and RTE…feck them all anyway, they are the best story tellers I’ve ever come across….

This brings me back to a six word story or flash fiction which allowed for a story , the best example of which was “For sale; baby shoes ,never worn”. It is the concept of telling a story in a minimal amount of words.

My father always told us this story he had to write for school when he was young. It was titled “A day in the bog”. He started “The day was wet and we didn’t go”. Always made me laugh.
