This Fine Gael TD's 'Mo' is getting some strange looks around Leinster House

Brendan Griffin’s handlebars are causing a bit of a stir.

“CURVACEOUS WITH A mild Sergeant Pepper’s influence” is how Brendan Griffin describes his moustache which is causing quite the stir around Leinster House – or so he says.

The Fine Gael TD for Kerry South is sporting a handlebar muzzy in aid of men’s cancer and just over a week in it’s already shaping to be pretty impressive by the end of  this month.

This is the second year that Griffin has taken part in ‘Movember’ – where men spend the month of November growing ‘taches to support men’s cancer charities, with varying degrees of success.

Writing on his charity page, Griffin says that he’s “making good progress but getting very strange looks around Leinster House…”

However he goes on to warn that he will be extracting donations from anyone who slags it off and on Facebook he says he’s already collected €16 from on the spot fines.

It’s not yet clear if any other TDs are joining Griffin in his Movember challenge.

Mind you, for some in Leinster House every month is Movember:

In places like Kansas or Texas, if the people there saw what our orange weather warnings were, they’d certainly have a chuckle.

@Peter Cavey: a lot of them also laugh when somebody mentions climate change. C’est la vie.

@Peter Cavey: The one thing that used to strike me when I lived upstate NY was how well they were able to manage difficult weather conditions. Roads were ALWAYS kept clear no matter how much snow fell. You would see the trucks sitting on the exits to the highways ready to go. They monitored the weather on screens in their trucks and when they knew snow was coming, they all hit the road and started spreading salt and using snow plough’s.

@David Corrigan: yes because they had it every year without fail and could justify the huge outlay. We could have services like that laid on year after year and no snow.
