Burst water main hits Cork water supply

The council says they are working on fixing the problem, but that water may be discoloured when it comes back.

HOMES AND BUSINESSES in Cork have been hit by water disruptions after a water main burst in the city.

Cork City Council says that a number of areas will be hit after the trunk main at Cattle Market Street burst this afternoon and that engineers were on the scene.

The Old Youghal Road, St Lukes, Middle Glanmire Road, Audley Place, Roche’s Buildings, Summerhill North, Glenthorn, Ballincollie Road, Ballyhooley Road, Parklands and surrounding areas will be affected.

Areas around the Fox and Hound and local County Council areas will also be affected.

A spokesperson says that the water would be discoloured when it does return, but that is not to be unexpected.

“Every effort will be made to keep the disruption to a minimum. Some discolouration to the water supply may occur when the water supply is restored. This discolouration is harmless, and will clear in a short time.

“Please check the clarity of the water at the kitchen tap before operating drink vending machines, washing machines, dishwashers etc.”

The council asked residents to pass the news on to neighbours who may not have seen it.
