Public Accounts Committee chair calls for CRC to "come clean" on top-ups

It emerged yesterday that the Central Remedial Clinic used charitable money to top-up the salaries of senior staff.

FIANNA FÁIL TD and chair of the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee, John McGuinness, has called on the Central Remedial Clinic (CRC) to make an immediate statement on charitable money that was used to top-up the salaries of senior staff.

Commenting today on the news which emerged yesterday afternoon, McGuinness said it was “deeply concerning”.

The committee is expected to received a report from the HSE in the next week about funding for the CRC and if found to be unsatisfactory, he said representatives from the clinic will be called before it.

Before that, I am calling on the CRC to make a comprehensive statement and come clean on the payments to staff that were funded by charitable donations. If this does not happen promptly I will call the CRC to appear before the PAC.

He said the statement must be full and frank and cover every aspect of their funding and where the money is going.

“The behaviour by the CRC is simply not good enough, the public will not accept it and I will not accept it,” he continued. “People give their hard earned money to charity with the expectation, in this instance, that it goes towards children and adults with a range of disabilities. This is a gross breach of public trust and the CRC must now explain itself in an open and transparent way.”

Strange that the drug gangs and The Gardai keep changing tactics but the law makers and judiciary just keep handing out suspended sentences. If I stole something would I not just be able to say it is for my own use. Or if I was an arsonist would the government give me lead free petrol. Methadone is not working, cold turkey may be the only answer to get off heroin and bringing drugs into Ireland should be treated as endangering a nation with zero tolerance regardless of the poor mouth stories

That’s what they do in the USA doesn’t seem to have solved their drug problem.
Compare that to Portugal where possession is decriminalised, drug related deaths, illness and harm all reducing.

What about the elderly people being savagely attacked in their homes so that drug habits canbe fed, do they not count? If you are only doing at weekends for the craic you are contributing to the of mass fortunes of the like ,of John Gilligan and deserve what punishment you get. A drug free society may not be possible but surely it is worth a try.
