Body of man discovered in car found submerged in Naas canal

Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses to the collision, which took place overnight.

GARDAÍ HAVE APPEALED for witnesses after a man’s body was found in a car that was submerged in a canal in Kildare.

Gardaí in Naas are investigating a single vehicle fatal traffic collision that took place in Kilmeage, Naas overnight.

They said that a car was discovered submerged in the canal at Newpark, Kilmeage at approximately 10am this morning by a member of the public.

Once the car was removed from the water, a single male, in his late 20s, was discovered in the vehicle.

His body was removed to the mortuary at Naas General Hospital and the coroner’s office has been notified.

Gardaí in Naas are now appealing for anyone who may have been in the vicinity of the canal at Newpark Kilmeage between 7pm on Friday 29 November and this morning, Saturday 30 November, to contact them at 045 884300, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any garda station.

Genuine question. Why do people put RIP on every story that mentions someone dying? I really don’t understand what people feel it achieves? Is it just an old superstition like the way some people say ‘god bless you’ when someone sneezes?

I don’t do it myself but I think its wrong to red thumb a comment that does for the simple reason a family member or friend could be reading the article the last thing they need is someone making a mockery out of a condolence

That’s fair enough foxy, I don’t red thumb the RIP comments myself. My problem is with the empty gesture itself, it really is a pointless gesture to make the person posting the RIP comment feel like they’ve contributed positively to something. It’s similar to a person saying ‘I’ll pray for disaster victims’ instead of actually helping, they take satisfaction that they’ve helped but done absolutely nothing.

Maybe Mick, people RIP as a mark of respect. A person has passed away. Someone has their son, brother, boyfriend etc. I may not know them but I am sorry for their loss. Is the world we live in now so harsh we can’t show respect?

Lea, this story actually upsets me, the thoughts of someones son not coming home last night and his life ending the way it did is horrible. My issue is not with anyone showing respect, I would bend over backwards to do anything I could to help this family if I knew them, my issue is with a particular meaningless superstitious phrase that people use on every story about people dying. It means nothing, it helps no-one and it belongs in the last century.
If someone wanted to show the family that may be reading the story that they are thinking of them why not say something like “I’m so sorry for your loss” or something similar.

So as I said Graham – a human fantasy to try to explain things that don’t seen fair.
Are you honestly saying in 2013 you believe reincarnation and karma etc are real?

It’s flawed logic Graham. Are you saying that just because someone makes any outlandish claim about supernatural forces it should be respected because it cannot be disproved? You can’t prove that I don’t have an invisible unicorn called Derek but as an intelligent grown up I’d hope you’d rule it out.

Hundreds of years ago people thought the world was flat. The “intelligent” grown ups of the day all believed that. History repeats itself. Your perfectly entitled to believe its all BS. I’m not going to try make you think otherwise.

Actually it’s a myth that educated people in the middle ages thought the earth was flat. All societies throughout history have recognised that the earth was spherical. But people will believe anything they’re told by people they trust.
