Today will be the busiest online mobile shopping day of 2013

A new survey revealed 22 per cent of Irish people are shopping from a mobile or smartphone for Christmas this year.

TODAY WILL BE the busiest online mobile shopping day of the year, as new research reveals Irish people are planning to spend 3.4 per cent more on presents this Christmas.

Some 22 per cent of Irish people are shopping from a mobile or smartphone this year, a survey has shown.

The research was conducted by eBay.ie, which found that Irish shoppers will be the biggest spenders this year, splashing out an average of €512.43 this festive season

Sweden follows closely behind, spending an average of €420,86.

Irish people will spend an average of €296 on Christmas gifts with most of the budget being spent on children. The figures are much higher in comparison to our European neighbours, Italy, who will spend €195 on presents.

Items that are expected to be flying off the virtual shelves on this busy Monday include iPad Minis, Furby Booms and Breaking Bad boxsets.

Saving money is one benefit but saving time is probably the biggest. I personally want to avoid traffic and long queues in the mall around Christmas.

We should shop local if possible, support local business’s and the money circulates locally.

Its ironic that we are one of the most over borrowed indebted countries at well over 120% of GDP and yet we are one of the biggest spenders.

Load of rubbish. I cant abide by all this talk of the middle class squeeze. Lets all be honest for one minute…. who here can genuinely say that they and their friends and families didnt have a holiday, didnt attend a few functions such as meals out or communions and wont buy presents this Christmas. The shopping centres are full, myself and work colleagues ha to book our staff night out in july and it was fairly tight to get a night even then as the venue said they were swamped with Christmas bookings. Look I not denying people are in difficulty but few if any of the middle class will go without a decent Christmas. Its all moan moan moan oh poor me…

I can honestly say ive not left ireland in 5 years. I’ve attended few functions yes very few. Few drinks watching football every month at best. I am middle class but neg equity in civil service earning half what I earned when I took mortgage. However, thats my problem I invested in height bubble crashed wages dropped. Just unlucky but my issue noone else’s. I had noticed big crowds out shopping and all. Bully for them.just not me. Im sure im not the only one. Now one could say screw mortgage for a month its tempting

My inbox this morning was full of offers from online retail companies. One being from missguided.com with 20% off everything and free delivery. I have to admit, I gave into temptation.
