I pass by there every day and it’s scary to see the amount of pedestrians dodging the traffic rather than use the pedestrian bridge.

What do driving instructors have to do with pedestrians crossing dual carriageways?

Wrong to assume the driver was automatically at fault. Also the pedestrian was hit 50 meters from a pedestrian crossing.

Colm, The area this accident happened is about 100 metres away from a hospital service for people with disability, physical and intellectual. I’m sure not all of the pedestrians are ‘lazy’, unfortunately some may not have the capacity to know how or where to safely cross the road. I hope whoever it was makes a full recovery.

Plenty!! I take it from your comment you don’t know!! Regardless of whether someone steps out on the road, or try ‘s to cross on a green light, Motorists should be aware of any potential hazards! Read the rules of the road . Boy racers knocking around trying to beat the sound barrier, Blokes having a mid life crises in their sports cars driving like Schumacher and women not reading situations! It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work it out, Or maybe it does in your case!

Unless everyone drives at 5kmh everywhere, unfortunately sometimes incidents like this happen sometimes. All road users including pedestrians have to take responsibility for themselves.

Sure drivers of motor vehicles have a higher standard/duty of care but the practical reality is that when someone else does something stupid be it a fellow motorist, pedestrian or cyclist, sometimes with the best will in the world an accident can’t be avoided.

Theory doesn’t always equate to practice.

Some pedestrians seem to think they can walk in front of traffic with no consequences and traffic will just brake for them. This evening travelling west through Tallaght on the N81 I had to brake heavily twice (flashed high beam but resisted using the horn) to avoid hitting two half wits who decided to cross the dual carriageway (3 lanes each way). Both dressed in dark clothing, ambling along.
Town is worse, with pedestrians wandering over the road like cattle.

Jimmy, I was doing the speed limit on a dual carriageway where NO pedestrians are supposed to be. Only for my cautious driving was another accident avoided.
I’ll take your “arrogant git” comment as a compliment.

Irish can’t drive properly as our test system is grievously flawed. You can pass the test easily and you are then expected to drive on main dual carriage ways etc…..joke
