Gardaí to launch free Child Rescue Ireland Alert app tomorrow

It’s hoped the CRI alert app will be an added tool to help gardaí locate abducted children.

THE GARDAÍ IS to launch a free Child Rescue Ireland (CRI) Alert  smart phone app that will help notify people with a CRI alert and keep them up to date with information.

The launch coincides with National Missing Persons Day tomorrow.

The CRI Alert system was launched in May of last year and has been utilised twice since its inception, on 29 July 2013 and 28 November 2013.

Child abduction

The purpose of the CRI Alert is to seek the assistance of the public when investigating child abduction cases.

It does so by publicising relevant information and details which facilitates members of the public in identifying the abducted child, suspect or vehicles involved in the abduction and immediately feeding that information back to the investigating gardaí.

The app is hoped to be an added addition to the alert system and was created with the assistance of the Vodafone Foundation Ireland. The app is available for free on Apple, Android and Windows Media platforms.

The gardaí said that the app further increases the channels available to them for publicising a CRI Alert and utilises two strands – a notification for when a CRI alert is issued and a space to securely maintain up-to-date information which may include photos.

Criteria

Commissioner Callinan welcomed the smartphone app initiative saying that “strict criteria must be met before the CRI Alert is issued. If these criteria are met, CRI Alert information is distributed by An Garda Síochána to the public through a range of communications channels”.

He said he hoped the additional means of a smartphone app will help get the message of the CRI Alert to the public, adding that “over 50 percent of the public in Ireland own a smartphone and as a result the potential for quickly reaching vast numbers of the population with critical information is enormous”.

A CRI Alert will only be initiated when there is a reasonable belief that there is an immediate and serious risk to the health and welfare of the abducted child.

He had to apologize, Callinan had to resign and a policing board will now be put in place to oversee the force.

All very obviously going to happen months and months ago.

It was never my intention, or my motive, to be the subject of idle conversation in and out of pubs, bot rural and urban; that’s not to say that the only conversations happening in and outside of rural and urban pubs is idle – indeed I’ve had many a discussion inside and outside of rural and urban pubs, but setting that aside and moving the discussion forward and not appearing to beat around the bush I wish to get straight to the matter that has caused immense discourse up and down every boreen and corner shop in the country. Needless to say there will be people who say I am attempting to denigrate and traduce urban & rural pubs alongside boreens & corner-shops but these nay-Sayers, will be, I bet, amongst the usual subjects who seem to always get themselves involved in every matter they deem of public importance; but I digress ….

Among the loudest calling for his removal are FG members.

He has made such a mess of it that he has to go or at the least be reshuffled out in the summer.

Kenny has also shown bad judgement and a heave might be needed if this Govt wants to see 2016 in power and a hope of a return.

It’s Lab that want the Justice portfolio Seanie. Gilmore wants to stay at home, as is well known. Gilmore would want it moreso than most as he’s the ultimate glory hunter and would reap the rewards of Shatter’s more positive contributions, and especially the LGBT referendum.

Lab need a win badly. They’ll want justice.

Sam, you really haven’t a clue – Labour want Shatter to stay more than anyone.

Kerry – if you really look at the things Shatter is trying to achieve, you might be more inclined to support him.

He is trying to reform the entire legal system and drag it into the 21st Century. He is also trying to remove the issue of adoption from the Marriage Equality referendum by making it legal for gay couples to adopt before the referendum. All of these sort of things means he has very powerful enemies.

No they don’t Bob. That’s why they came out and called for this apology all throughout last week. If you think that with elections on the horizon, Lab are more concerned about their own standing than Shatter’s, you really shouldn’t be commenting on political matters.

Gilmore has made it clear., and it has been made clear to him by his own party (where he’s known as the Minister of invisibility) that he needs to stay at home to increase his, and by defaults Lab’s, profile.

Considering Lab sacrificed Shorthall during her run in with Reilly, Lab will use that as leverage to gain an additional cabinet seat if Shatter’s is vacant. They will want Justice for themselves so as to be able to claim legislation Shatter already has worked on and is currently in the pipeline.

The referendum is coming down the tracks regardless.

A Ministerial seat is what’s at stake politically. The last thing on any of their minds in Lab or FG right now is the LGBT referendum.

Labour need Shatter because he is one of the most liberal in FG. His is the last head they want. Also, if you think FG would give Justice to Labour after getting a head, you really haven’t a clue.

Barring any more revelations, Shatter is now safe as houses.

How many people have lost their job over this entire debacle and yet Shatter steadfastly refuses to step down

    1) Garda Whitleblower … John Wilson (Forced to retire due to the bullying he got for raising the issue).
    2) Sgt McCabe, still in his job, but told he will never get a promotion
    3) Callinan … Took early retirement rather than doing the honorable thing and acknowledging his wrong-doing
    4) Indo journalist Gemma O’Doherty sacked for raising the corruption issue to Callinan
    5) Attorney General Maire Whelans job is currently on the line due to Shatters inability to read reports sent by her to his office
    6) Oliver Connolly sacked for telling the truth about Shatters personal vindictiveness to the Garda whistleblowers

How many people can Shatter take down and scape-goat before he acknowledges either his total incompetence or his total corruption to the Irish people.

He apologized to the Dail for mis-leading them, but he never actually apologized to any of his victims or the whistle-blowers. He said he ‘should apologize’ if there was offense taken, but no actual apology came out from his weasel mouth to them.

Am I being pedantic in suggesting that what he said is still not even an apology? Stating that it would be right for him to apologise and withdraw his remarks is, in my view, not the same as apologising and withdrawing those remarks. The way Minister Shatter phrased it is something that he can row back on if circumstances change.
