Facebook rolls out auto-play videos for mobile users

The feature will pave the way for video advertising, which is expected to arrive sometime next year.

FACEBOOK’s NEWS FEED could get a whole lot busier as the company introduces auto-play videos, paving the way for video advertising further down the line.

Similar to how videos play on Instagram, once you scroll down and see a video in your news feed, it will begin playing automatically. The company has been testing the feature over the past few weeks and is now bringing it to all users.

Videos will be silent at first, and users can turn on sound by tapping on the video. Only videos uploaded from Facebook and Instagram will play automatically, while YouTube videos will still need to be selected to play.

Currently, only videos from personal accounts and from musicians and bands will begin playing automatically. Facebook will extend the feature to other pages and services over time.

For those conscious about using up data when playing videos, you can set it so that they only play when you’re connected to WiFi.

iOS users have to go into the phone’s settings and scroll down to Facebook’s section to change it, while Android users must go into app settings on Facebook.image

Facebook has been planning on introducing video ads for a number of months. They were originally due to arrive during the summer, but the company was aware that they could upset users and so delayed its release. It’s expected that these ads would make their way to both mobile and desktop sometime next year.

Absorbing yourself into the truly exhilarating ambience of the gig is what it’s all about.

Taking a quick photo at a gig is one thing, but people pay good money to watch a gig on a 5″ screen, madness!! Go home and watch it for free on YouTube….oops I forgot, if you don’t record it and post it on Facebook, it never happened.
These people clearly don’t go to gigs for the music, they go so everyone knows they were there. That’s kinda sad :(

The comments on here don’t reflect reality! I don’t go to many gigs but from recent experience 90% of people are at some carryon with their phones yet 100% comments are completely against it! Are the journal readers just an enlightened crowd or a bunch of liars?

Read the title ar@seways and thought it said pigs and not gigs for a few seconds. Wasn’t exactly sure why people were filming pigs on their smart phones but was definetly in agreement something had to be done to tackle it. Its been a long day and i am seriously tired. Wish my darling son would go the feck asleep so i can too :)

If you wish to record a concert with your phone/camera then piss off to the back of the crowd. It is very annoying having to look through hundreds of small screens to see what is on stage.
