LG and Samsung unveil similar 105-inch TVs on the same day

Same size, same curved screen, and the same screen ratio.

IT’S EITHER A coincidence or bad timing on someone’s part, but both Samsung and LG announced they will be releasing 105-inch HD TVs on the same day.

Not only are both HD TVs the same size, both companies claim that it’s the largest curved TV ever made. Both have an 11 million pixel screen resolution, and a 21:9 ratio screen for enjoying TV, movies and gaming.

Here’s how the two TVs will look.

LG’s TV allows for information to be displayed on the side without covering up what you’re watching. Samsung’s model includes what it calls the “Quadmatic Picture Engine,” which displays all content in ultra-high definition regardless of its source.

Neither Samsung or LG has revealed how much their TVs will cost, but considering that LG’s 84-inch HD TV costs €20,000, chances are you’ll need some very deep pockets before you can afford either one.

Both will be revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show 2014 in Las Vegas at the beginning of January.

Im tempted to buy into the curved tv style as it looks great. But I just cant tell wether its another fad that will be pushed out. The 3D was a big deal a year or two ago and now the major TV networks like Sky are getting rid of the 3D stations, and 3D viewing is not popping up on all new TVs anymore.

Everytime you invest in a new Tv another one comes along within a year or they go back on the technology added to the one you buy. Makes it hard to to decide whats the best to go with.

3d has its uses. Say your watching an action movie I agree 3d is more distracting than anything. But say for animated movies its fantastic and there has been some great movies made in 3d from final destination 5 to gravity. But only certain types of movies are good in 3d. As for glasses fair enough but they are working on prism pixels which separate light to your eye eliminating 3d glasses.

Curved tv will take off same as wide screen. But just give the tech a year or so. Prices of these things free fall. Hell my tv was 3.500 5yrs ago and not outclasses and worth few hundred at push. I want a new 4h tv so I can try out my new titan gpu for my pc.

Samsung, Sony, LG, Panasonic, whatever. They’re all exactly the same box of electronics behind the label. These big brands don’t manufacture anything themselves, they all source the same stuff from the same hidden sweatshop with a couple of hundred employees who every day contemplate throwing themselves out an upstairs window because they’re so exploited. Think Foxconn and the like. So there.

That’s patently untrue. Not arsed explaining why. And to the other reply- it’s not so clear cut. Those panels only go to other manufacturing after Sony don’t use them and there’s surplus stock / tooling.

Likely that Samsung designed/produced the screen and are happy for LG to sell it as it helps amortise production tooling costs in a very small market.

You used to have a convex CRT tv , as we all did . The first advance was FST ( flatter , squarer , tube ) CRT’s which appeared better at the edges as they were not curving in the opposite direction to the edges of the eyeball. Next we had truly flat panels become possible with plasma , LCD and LED.
So the new advance is a concave screen that follows the curvature of the eye . In time will become standard , as costs fall
