150 new technology jobs announced for Liberty Mutual

The jobs will be located in the company’s Blanchardstown office in Dublin.

150 NEW JOBS have been announced for Liberty Mutual’s Blanchardstown office in Dublin.

The Boston-based Liberty Mutual Insurance Group said today that the new jobs represent an expansion of the company’s IT operations, which currently employ over 350 people in Belfast.

The new jobs will be phased in over the next two years, and will bring the company’s total workforce over the island of Ireland to more than 1,500 employees.

The expanded IT operations in Dublin will support the establishment of an IT Help Desk, a Security Operations Centre and a Software Engineering Unit.

Liberty Mutual Insurance Group today also announced that it has acquired the remaining 49 percent of Liberty Mutual Ireland Investment Holdings Limited, the parent company of Ireland-based Liberty Insurance Limited, from Tutelana Limited, a subsidiary of the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation.

Liberty Mutual Insurance Group is now the 100 percent owner of Liberty Insurance, which provides car, home and commercial insurance in Ireland.

James McGlennon, Chief Information Officer of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, said: “The decision to invest in Dublin reflects the quality of IT graduates and experienced professionals available to support future growth.”

Speaking today, Richard Bruton, TD, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, said the news was “a further boost for the [technology] sector and for the economy”.

The Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation is supporting the investment through IDA Ireland.

ICT Ireland, the Ibec group that represents the high-tech sector, described the announcement as “very encouraging”. Its director Paul Sweetman said: “Not only is Ireland viewed as a world class location for technology companies, it is also seen as a premier location for the technology divisions of corporations from broader sectors, such as financial services.”

And yet some w&nker from Fermanagh will probably try to drive a fuel tanker in the door all in the name of their righteous leader Quinn.

Apologies. I thought you were being snarky about everyone on the dole. The word “am” threw me.

    Please ignore my comment.

Good news as I’m finishing up an I.T networking course! Security seems to be the fastest growing sector within I.T. There’s a huge shortfall of security consultants in Ireland, because they all got great offers in the U.S with Symantec etc when no one was paying attention to security issues over here.

Probably not that easy to move insurance sales people and administrators into an IT function.

Not all these people would have been sales, the day of the insurance sales man is long gone and never formed part of the Quinn or Liberty model, most people working in there would have some third level qualification that in some cases would not be transferable but I imagine a good 50% may have had complementary skills / qualifications

Thought they let go 800 jobs about 2years ago when they took over Quinn insurance.

150 jobs are welcome tho I don’t think they should be painting themselves as job heroes…

Make another 650 jobs il be impressed…
