The 9 at 9 Good morning! Here are nine things you want to know as you start your day.

EVERY MORNING,TheJournal.ie brings you the nine stories you need to know as you kick off your day.

1. #CALVIN HARRIS: One garda and two security staff were injured last night and 23 people were arrested during a Calvin Harris concert at the O2 in Dublin. Most of the arrests were for public order offences while five were related to drugs offences.

2. #BARROSO: Top EU official José Manuel Barroso has said the euro was a victim of banking problems in Ireland and it is not accurate to suggest the EU caused our crisis. However he commended Ireland for its’s efforts, adding that work by European institutions has helped us exit the bailout.

3. #RIP: Marie Fleming, the woman who took a landmark case seeking to be allowed to end her life with the assistance of her husband, has died. Fleming, who had Multiple Sclerosis, had been deteriorating in health when she lost her case in the courts this year.

4. #REVENUE: A Revenue probe into businesses paid in cash resulted in almost €82 million being recouped in the first eight months of this year, RTÉ reports. The biggest amount of cash, at €21 million, was paid by landlords.

5. #HOLLES ST: Master of the National Maternity Hospital, Dr Rhona Mahony,  has failed to provide the HSE with documents requested on the €45,000 in additional fees she received from private patients, a Dáil committee heard yesterday. The Irish Daily Mail reports the HSE’s Geraldine Smith said she did not think they were going  to get the information.

6. #LONDON: An investigation has begun into the collapse of a ceiling at the Apollo Theatre in London last night which resulted in almost 80 people being injured. A structural assessment of the 112-year-old building will take place today.

7. #ELAINE O’HARA: The man charged  with the murder of childcare worker Elaine O’Hara lost his appeal for bail yesterday, the Irish Sun reports. After a two-hour break to consider the application yesterday, Chief Justice Susan Denham said the court was dismissing all grounds on which the appeal had been brought.

8. #CHILD ABUSE: There were more than 19,000 referrals received by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs over concerns about child abuse last year, with figures for 2013 expected to be similar. The figures include examples of sexual, physical and emotional abuse and neglect.

9. #SOUTH SUDAN: US President Barack Obama has warned that South Sudan is at the “precipice” of civil war, amid spiralling violence, with the UN launching a rescue mission after three Indian peacekeepers were killed, AFP reports.

@Abbe Julio I have to disagree with you on the hagiography comment, people such as myself genuinely loved the man for the person and musician he was, the life he lived and his honesty about it. I admired him, laughed with him when he told stories, was upset for him when I discovered he was ill and was so truly upset to hear he passed. He was a flawed man but as I’ve said so many times now, we’re all flawed..only most of us don’t want to admit it and those that do are usually berated for it.
Then there are those of us who relate.

@Laura H: Beautifully put, I’m in total agreement with you on everything you’ve said. We’re all human, nobody is worthier/better than anyone else no matter who they are. People admired Christy and @Abbe Julio’s use of the word ‘hagiography’ is totally disingenuous. RIP Christy.

Rest in peace Christy . You fought a long battle . Followed Aslan all my life . From seeing them as a teenager play in the the old Janelle shopping centre ( now Clearwater) when they got back together to the pubs and clubs like the Fingal, Baggot Inn, Vicar St. Olympia and the Iveagh Gardens .
Your music will live on . Condolences to all the family and band members .
