iPhone 5 to be released in September - report

Reuters says people in the know believe production on the new handset will begin this summer, and ship in September.

THE LATEST EDITION of Apple’s iPhone will begin production this summer ahead of a release in September, a Reuters report has suggested.

Production of the new handset would begin in July or August, and would begin distribution in September, according to the report which cited the knowledge of three people “with direct knowledge of the company’s supply chain”.

The sources declined to be identified, however. Spokespersons for Apple and for three of its main manufacturers and suppliers in Asia, where its units are manufactured, declined to comment.

The new handset will contain a faster processor than the current model, the report added, though the physical handset would not look too physically different from the current iPhone 4.

The launch of the current model, which was unveiled in June of last year and available for sale within a month, was beset by problems after users found that the aluminium rim running around the sides of the phone – which doubles as the unit’s antenna – could be short-circuited by simply holding the phone at its corner.

The launch of a white edition of the current handset – which was delayed as a result of the scramble to repair the antenna glitch – could be due next week.

Mine is older and I’m waiting for my quote to come in for this year. Last year it was 600 on an estate car. The year before it was just 400 on one of the largest vans and the road, a Mercedes Sprinter.

Seems odd that I can get insurance on a large van far cheaper than a car.

Likewise, bought a newer car, with smaller engine, insurance went up by 350 euros, never had a claim, never had a ticket, never had a fine, never had a penalty point, 20 years of excellent driving to be told its all about gender equalisation (for the second year running). My husband pays less for a bigger jeep, its a joke, and very stressful to fight your corner.

Last year I shopped around extensively and found a wide variance in what I was being quoted. This year I shopped around *exhaustively* and found almost no variance in the quotes I was getting.

If this isn’t as the direct result of a price-fixing strategy I will eat my insurance disk. I mean, it doesn’t seem like they’re even trying to hide it, that’s how confident they are that the feckless morons supposedly in charge of this country won’t stop them.

Not can’t, *won’t*. The reality is they could remove the profit motive from insurance overnight. You could legislate for the establishment of insurance co-ops, for example. Instead we have Noonan tapping the pocket containing the bulky envelope and whining to us about how Europe are tying his hands.

Now if only FF and SF could spot a political opportunity smacking them in the nuts like a speeding football we might actually have a chance of finding a solution here….

I remember paying 1500 punts! when I was 18 years old. I was working in Dunnes stacking shelves to pay for it when in school. Meanwhile, the girls the same age in my class were getting insured for 700.

Wonder if there’s any chance I’ll get an equality payment to have that money refunded?

I’m now 38, never had a penalty point, nor speeding ticket, nor claim of any kind. And my wife will still get insured cheaper than i will.

It is all so erratic, my husbands insurance is lower, car has a larger engine, i have a full clean driving history, and only use the car to commute, he uses it for work, and carries tools, but pays less. I think the only way around it, is to have an affiliation. I remember when i was younger, if u joined the institute of accountants (€50), you got cheaper insurance, you had 5 years qualify, regardless of whether you wanted to be an accountant you could still join.

Debatable, The Guru, if everyone had that mindset we could not improve the country. It is on the edge of greater Europe. Hasan opportunity for good growth if some aspects of the political and fiscal landscape can be addressed. The grass is always greener when looking out, the reality is often not that dissimilar from your backyard. After living in many places, all countries have issues similar to each other, some have a perception of better weather same as economic climate. The people are the dividing factor and if begrudgery stops, some optimism is found and community spirit is cultivated this country could find new race legs. The power is in your hands.

I live in a European country, Bulgaria. Car insurance here, called “citizen’s responsibility” is 100 leva or approx, 50 euro. It’s state run. You can add private insurance to it, but it’s not a legal requirement.
I don’t see any interference from the EU in car insurance here. Yet we have the worst drivers in Europe on the roads.

My partner and I are in a very high risk group, both in our 50s, no points, no claims for 20 years, jointly drive less than 8,000 km per annum, underground car park in Dublin 04, low risk occupations, social drivers only and a 3 year old bog standard car with 18,000 KM on it. I’d hate to think what higher risk groups are being quoted.

We have a solution. Electric bikes and car hire for the occasional long journey.

The economics of car driving between tax, insurance, cost of purchase, fuel and maintenance are the strongest possible argument against car ownership for those who are fortunate enough not to commute.

In the longer term the motor insurance providers are killing the geese who lay the golden eggs for them.

If enough people stop driving and insuring cars, insurance companies won’t have enough premium income to meet future claims and will fail to comply with solvency II.

I have a 14 year old Micra with no claims or penalty points and no issues on NCT every year so it’s really disheartening for a cost I expect to decrease each year to now be steadily increasing.I have to say that I’m glad I got my car and license when I did because as someone under 25 trying to get insurance in 2016 the price must be astronomical.
I’m really afraid of the 15 year no insurance criteria being enforced now as well, I’ve already looked into replacing my car with several dealers and it’s been the same story everywhere I go with regards 06-09 cars. Very hard to find and in huge demand, probably because everyone has the same idea.

Some serious haggling required though with both.
AA started the phone call on €490 or something like that …and then the guy kept saying “hold on, hold on a minute” when I said I’d be going with Blue for €380 and then he went down to €350.

My insurance went up 25% a few months ago.
I know someone who was an investigative journalist in Dublin some years ago. He was young and finding it impossible to get a reasonable quote for motor insurance. The reporter did research, obtaining quotes from several companies. At that time, for a 22yr old male, almost all of his quotes were well in excess of €1200.
He then arranged to meet the head (bossman) of the body that represents motor insurance companies in Ireland to interview him as to why young drivers were being charged such high premiums. During the interview, the ‘bossman’ asked him what the lowest quote he got was (€1,250). He then said to him “I can do it for you at €400, give me a call”.
So it seems it might boil down to who you know in the business – and if you don’t, you’re screwed.

I paid €1500 put opted for a ‘smart-driver’ tag to be installed in my car to measure my driving. After 6 months I sent this back and received a €400 refund for being a ‘smart driver’. As a result I expected my renewal in January to be around the €1000 mark but was quoted the same as a I paid last year despite having been given a refund previously. When I questioned this they told me that I had received the maximum refund last year but prices have gone up and that’s the way it is. As all other companies ranged between €2000-€7000 for insurance, I took the renewal!

Set the claim limits on accidents and base vehicle value on book value. Establish clear measures to stop fraudulent claims. My insurance went from €360 to €874. No claims no reason for increase. I’m now facing the challenge of can I afford to go to work? I can’t afford the insurance .. My wages have not increased. We live on €100 per week after bills are paid … Please can anyone tell me why I have to take out s loan to pay insurance or go back on the dole as I can’t have a car on the road. I am 46. No claims or convictions.
