Bill Clinton set for Belfast visit in March

The former US president will be in the city on 5 March to open the William J. Clinton Leadership Institute at Queen’s University.

BILL CLINTON WILL travel to Belfast in March and will open a new department at Queen’s University that bears his name.

The former US president will be in the city on 5 March with part of his travel plans to open the William J. Clinton Leadership Institute at Queen’s.

Riddel Hall, the building that houses the leadership institute, was opened by former Irish President Mary McAleese in October 2012 but the institute was named in honour of Clinton last year. He will now attend to formally open the institute under his name.

At the time of the announcement of the naming of the institute, Clinton described it as an “honour” and said that it “will prepare future business leaders for a time that requires economic innovation”.

Speaking about Clinton’s upcoming visit, Queen’s acting Prof. James McElnay said that the work of the institute is based on the same ideals as the Clinton foundation:

The aim of the William J. Clinton Leadership Institute at Queen’s is directly aligned to the goals of the Clinton Foundation. It provides a focus at the heart of the local business community, supporting economic growth and the ongoing development of the knowledge economy.

Clinton and his wife Hillary have visited Northern Ireland many times and the former president’s most recent visit to Dublin was last October when he spoke at a Dinner organised by Philanthropy Ireland.

The Clinton Foundation has not provided any further details on Clinton’s upcoming trip to Ireland.

Journal, what Gooney means is that you should only cover deaths of celebrities who he or she might have heard off.
