A gun and six knives were taken from a man who became violent with gardaí

The incident happened on Monday evening in the centre of Dundalk.

A FIREARM AND six pocket knives were taken from a man who was acting violently and was arrested in Dundalk on Monday night.

The incident happened when gardaí were responding to a public order call at Barrack Street in the town at about 7pm.

Upon arriving at the scene, gardaí say the 33-year-old man became violently aggressive and was arrested.

A search of the bag the man was carrying was found to contain a firearm. Six folding locking knives were also seized during the course of the incident.

The firearm was taken by gardaí for forensic analysis and the man is still being held at Dundalk Garda Station.

He is being held Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act normnally employed in cases of explosives, firearms or subversive offences.

Well said a handgun is not a hunting weapon and if used for sport should only be brought out on direct way to ranges and secure keeping. 10 years for possession in public place and if not licensed further 10

Actually a handgun in the right calibre is one of the most challenging hunting firearms out there. But seeing as we dont have anything hunt able here in Ireland with one,bar maybe Scobes,TDs and banksters, you do have a point.

They think they’re a liberal bunch and they shout from the rafters about the injustice that the political elite cause, the same political elite that they are in denial about voting for. Yet they want a man executed without trial. Yep that’s Ireland.
