Hayes: ‘Some people think the European Parliament is some kind of Outer Mongolia'

Junior finance minister Brian Hayes has not ruled out a return to domestic politics as he announced his intention to run for the European Parliament this morning.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjAUKOd0unY

FINE GAEL JUNIOR Minister Brian Hayes has confirmed he intends to seek his party’s nomination to run for the European Parliament in Dublin later this year.

The Dublin South West deputy said that he feels a “responsibility” to retain to retain the seat currently held by Gay Mitchell who is stepping down in May. Hayes’s decision brings an need to long-running speculation that he would seek the nomination.

“I love Fine Gael, I joined the party not because my mother or father was a member or a TD but because I believe in what the party stands for,” he said at a media gathering outside Leinster House this morning.

Though he said that he intends to serve a full five-year term if he is elected in May, he would not rule out the possibility of returning to domestic politics before the end of the term.

“My intention is to serve the five years. I don’t see a scenario where I will be standing in the next election, but who knows,” he said adding “who knows what’s going to happen in the future”.

Hayes is currently a Minister of State at the Departments of Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform with responsibility for the Office of Public Works. He said he will remain in these positions, but not draw a salary during the campaign.

Only if Hayes is elected to the European Parliament will he be required to vacate his Dáil seat, triggering a by-election in the constituency where he has been a TD since 2007 having previously lost his seat in 2002.

The 44-year-old also praised party leader and Taoiseach Enda Kenny saying “he gave me the best possible Minister of State job going”.

He dismissed suggestions his European bid was influenced by the perception he would not be appointed to Cabinet having been part of an attempted heave against Kenny in 2010.

“I think some people think that the European Parliament in Brussels is some kind of outer Mongolia,” he said.

You are right, I would need to be far more intelligent to run for election, like say Edna Kenny or Michael Lowry, now that’s brain for you right there, one that is running a country but is not allowed to talk to the media incase he makes a show of himself and the other one when he got sacked stands by the man who sacked him and calls him my new best friend forever ever, or maybe I need to be like the Healy Rae’s, and sound like I am talking under water, spelling is a big part of it alright, any chance you could let us know who you are or are you to important for that, o and spell this FCUK off coward, damm I spilt it ring agin

If he has ANY new ideas other than the same tired old ‘ capital tax cuts’ , privatization, deregulation, cuts cuts zzzzz, (insert new stealth tax here), (deregulate on one hand while nanny stating us on the other) ye know if he’s got something to serve up other than that sh1te?

Stop voting for the same crusty old names, stop buying the scam that they are around long enough that they are ‘connected’ and get things done for you…it’s nonsense.

Kenny’s work experience won’t get him a job running a corner shop – and, in typical Irish fashion, is only A TD because his father could play football.

And yet people actually believe he’s the man to put this country back on its feet. Cowen was no better – but, by the wholely scarecrow, we really can pick them!

Maybe – again, in typical Irish fashion – we should give the catholic clergy a bigger say in running the country.

Anyone who believes FG or Labour candidates after their ball faced lies in 2011 is an utter mug.

Remember how they were in favour of a good bank plan and proper bank regulation?
Remember how FG was promising an economic stimulus package instead of just more austerity?
Remember how they promised a ‘quango bombfire’ and radical public sector reform?
Remember how they promised to end the disgrace of us being the only country in Europe without Universal Healthcare?
(even though they wanted to use the discredited Dutch model)
Remember how they and Labour promised to abolish up front fees and explore alternatives like graduate tax or going back to full free fees and how they not only broke that promise but choose to go to the most regressive extreme?

Remember how Labour said water charges and fees were ‘red line issues’ without which they would not be entering government?
Remember how they smugly sat on the opposition benches for nearly 20 years with their noses in the air saying how much better they could do things? and then remember how they continued FF policy in virtually every respect?

Don’t be a mug, give new people a chance.

What have you done? Most of our European candidates have run off after some wrong doing. Look at Charlie Mc Creevy. It will come out in years to come after his pensions are secured. I wonder what you did Brian?

Now is the time to show our arrogant politicians who holds the puppet strings. For too long we’ve endured the tail wagging the dog. Enough!

It’s time to demonstrate the power of the pen, just as the Irish electorate did when they filleted FF in 2011.

These elections are a chance for people to send a strong message to FG and Labour. You must treat the electorate with respect and not as an inconvenient obstacle over whom you must trample in order to gorge yourselves and your buddies in the public trough

It’s hard to understand why underqualified leeches like Hayes are attracted to such highly paid lucrative jobs in Europe where there is no accountability, massive unchecked expenses and guaranteed pension…can’t he just do that here?

Hayes would be atypical of most EU MEP’s.

More arrogance and entitlement in one room than Christmas Dinner at Pee Flynn’s house.

He’ll be ranked as a genius in Brussels, the standard is low.

Long as you go along with the commission, don’t pay too much attention to the real world, you will go far in Europe.

No, Brian, if we thought it was Outer Mongolia we would be voting in our hordes to send you there. It is in fact a very pleasant place for your ilk, highly paid, generously expensed and with a wealth of restaurants and boutiques at which you may spend your ill gotten gains. Please, gentlefolk, do not vote for this man.
