GARDAÍ HANDED OUT more than 195 fixed penalty notices to drivers during a two-day crackdown on people using mobile phones while driving.
One driver even had their van seized because their tax was discovered to be almost two years out of date:
Yesterday gardaí began two days of checkpoints in Dublin to help bring a focus on stopping people flouting mobile phone use laws, and slapped a total of 100 people with fixed penalty notices on the first day alone.
Today, they handed out penalty points to almost the same amount of people, with 95 drivers getting the fines.
That means that over 195 were nabbed during the two day enforcement campaign, which is part of Operation Artery and involved checkpoints around the capital.
Assistant Commissioner John Twomey of the Garda National Traffic Bureau explained that they weren't just there to enforce the legislation, but to also ensure that all road users are protected and to help reduce the number of fatal and serious road traffic collisions.

Someone spiked the kale
