Why do Americans go mad for Super Bowl ads?

Bob Dylan, a horse-and-puppy friendship and a doberhuahua – last night’s commercials were probably better than the football.

THESE FIVE EXAMPLES, picked by Business Insider as the best of last night’s offerings, might give some insight into why Americans can’t get enough of the ads played during the Super Bowl commercial breaks.

The big brands often don’t worry about highlighting what their product is, what it does or why you need it in your life. Instead, they want to make entertaining ads that people will be talking about the day after the major NFL event.

As entertainment was, eh, lacking in the actual football, the ad teams really had to bring it. (Especially as companies forked out an average of $4 million per 30-second slot).

What do you think? Do you agree with this Top Five?

5. Chrysler: America’s Import

There’s Bob Dylan.

(YouTube: chrysler)

4. Audi: Doberhuahua

Yes, compromising is terrifying Audi.

(YouTube: AudiofAmerica)

3. T-Mobile: Tim Tebow

Before watching this one, non-NFL fans should note that Tim Tebow (the main character here) is a former quarterback. He was dropped by the New England Patriots earlier this season, making him a free agent with no contract.

(YouTube: TMobile)

2. Budweiser: ‘Puppy Love’

Horses and puppies? You can’t lose.

(YouTube: budweiser)

1. Coca-Cola: ‘America the Beautiful’

After a bad year in 2013 (remember how Pepsi upstaged it), Coca-Cola came back with a beautiful bang.

Are marketers contacting news sites and asking them to promote their ads? Or are they simply creating ads that are news worthy? Or both?

Only three hours, I gave up at 2am last night and they were only starting the fourth quarter, I would say a game of American Football that is one hour in duration goes on for at least four hours. Whatever people’s feelings on American football, the amount of ads would drive you nuts, could you imagine a somewhat similar sport such as rugby stopping after every play for an ad break.

Here, they will cut back to studio for a brief chat/replay.

American Football is like tennis in that after every play everyone goes back and lines up again for the next. This is the nature of the sport. As a long-time follower of it, I am very tired of the ignorant criticism it gets for the length of a game. I went to bed at the start of the 4th quarter too, but I tend to put that down to the earth being a planet with differing time-zones rather than complaining that it was taking too long.

There are many reasons why Super Bowl commercials are loved by Americans. One of them is the International Clio Awards. The Academy Award for commercials. Such an award won by an advertising agency puts it in a whole new money making category.

Being that the Super Bowl is seen by so many… The venue gives the product and the commercial great exposure.

The Super Bowl is great entertainment on so many levels. Be it the game, commercials, half-time entertainment, betting or family and friend time… The Super Bowl permits fun to be had by all. Furthermore, the fun can be had without watching the actual game.

Um… The Clio Awards is an International award.

In fact, Europe is known for producing the best commercials. The fact is that commercials are over abundant in the US. And in Europe there was a time when television broadcasting was limited. For example, in Germany in 70s, broadcasting stared after 3PM, with commercials being broadcasted at midnight. To get viewers of commercials, the commercials had to be good.

This is why many Clio Award winners are European. However, certa8n commercials like Michael Jackson’s Thriller video in America found great interest.

No I’m not saying the Europeans love commercials. I’m saying that a good add can be entertaining and the best ones are recognized world wide by an international organization.

Face it Bud, just because you may not like something doesn’t mean your likes and dislikes mirror the world.

fair enough marlon and i am all too aware how i feel does not mirror how the world feels !!!! that being said i do think most people find adds between shows to be extremely irritating and a severe hindrance to enjoying what they watch,i mean how did it ever become the norm to interrupt a film every 20min with a 5min add ???

and marlon of course there are good adds, some of them are hilarious but its a very minute percentage and doesnt take from the fact that adds are symptomatic of what ails the world, consumerism, greed and money !!! (in my opinion)
