Another drop in Live Register numbers, unemployment at 12.3 per cent

Some good news for the Government this morning.

THERE WAS A further drop in the number of people on the Live Register last month, according to the latest figures from the CSO.

Seasonally adjusted findings show there was a was a 2,300 decrease in January.

In unadjusted terms, there were 399,630 people signing on — that’s down 29,766 on the same month last year.

The standardised unemployment rate (SUR) in January was 12.3 per cent, down from 12.4 per cent in December 2013.

The ‘Live Register’ includes seasonal and part-time workers, and is not designed to measure unemployment.

The official unemployment rate is measured by the Quarterly National Household Survey, last carried out in the third quarter of 2013, when the rate was 12.8 per cent. (More here).

    I know this is a copy and paste from Press Association but please, Journal.ie, the name Derry is just fine.Your Irish readers don’t need to see the “official” name in the first paragraph.

    No, simply calling it Derry is not fine. Both sides need recognition so it’s Londonderry, Derry/Londonderry, L/Derry, Stroke City or something similar. Really annoying when rte refer to it only as Derry without also mentioning the correct official name of Londonderry.

    @Richard Ahern: It’s almost as annoying as someone using rte instead of RTÉ, Raidió Teilifís Éireann, the correct official name of the broadcaster. Fadas matter!

    @Joe x: looks like someone took offence to my suggestion of holding back salaries until Stormobt is reestablished and they are doing the jobs they are elected to do…..represent their constituents
