Communicorp to snap up eight UK radio stations

It brings the total amount of stations owned by the company to 27.

MEDIA GIANT COMMUNICORP is set to bring as many as 2.8 million UK listeners within its reach with the proposed acquisition of a string of radio stations.

The sale is currently subject to approval by the Competition Authority in Ireland, but has been approved by its UK counterpart.

Communicorp Chairperson Lucy Gaffney said the move reinforces the company’s “position as an international market leader”, with an established presence in Ireland, Bulgaria, and Latvia.

“These eight radio stations have shown great resilience in recent years and we look forward to continuing to drive each station to their full potential,” she said.

The management teams at the stations owned by Real & Smooth Limited owned will remain in place.

Communicorp intends to expand the DAB capability of the Capital stations included in the acquisition.

“Each of these stations has a strong and loyal following and this move will make Communicorp the fourth largest commercial radio group, in the UK,” CEO Gervaise Slowey said.

The stations included in the deal are:

  • Smooth East Midlands
  • Smooth North West
  • Smooth North East
  • Capital Scotland
  • Capital South Wales
  • Real Radio North Wales
  • Real Radio Yorkshire
  • Real XS

No one person or organisation should be allowed to control so many media outlets like this. It stifles free speech and influences the masses in a negative way. Control such as this leads to situations like Nazi Germany. Is that really where we want to be going again?

God help the brits, they’re now going to have to listen to the EU gospel according to Enda/Angela courtesy of best friend Lord Dinny Haw Haw. Meanwhile in Ireland, toothless, useless Rabbitte sits back and lets one man with very very close links to Fine Gael have a monopoly over what we read and listen to. An insult to democracy.

    Well said
and O’Brien still reckons that Seanie Fitz is “a good guy”
flying him around the globe in his private jet.
Not to mention Brian O’Driscoll inviting Seanie to his testimonial dinner in London

The fcuking smugness and arrogance of the jumped up sleeveens as the country shoulders the burden of their corruption (and most likely criminality).

O’Brien then buys Siteserve a utilities company from IBRC for a song in what looks to be a closed auction.
I would not be surprised if IBRC funded him to the hilt or if FG threw in a few state contracts to sweeten the deal.
