Storms battering the coast off Lahinch last month George Karbus via Facebook

Here's how much the government is going to spend on repairing the storm damage

The Cabinet agreed a package of funding earlier today.

THE GOVERNMENT HAS approved funding of €70 million to repair damage caused by the recent severe storms that battered the west and south west coasts of Ireland.

Cabinet today agreed €70 million in infrastructural funding that will be in addition to €25 million in humanitarian funding that was made available to flood victims last week.

The money allocated to repair storm damage will cover the storms up to the 6th January with further assessment required of the damage caused by recent storms and flooding in parts of Limerick, Cork and other areas.

The €70 million will be administered centrally by the Department of the Environment and allocated to local authorities.

A total of €16 million will go towards the repair of roads, €19 million will go on coastal protection, €7 million will be spent on piers and harbours, and €6 million on tourism infrastructure.

In addition, a further €12 million will be allocated to local authority and community infrastructure, while €10 million will go towards transport and OPW infrastructure.

A government spokesperson confirmed that the money will be coming from various government departments without changes to existing budgets.
