Today FM breaks record for most heads shaved simultaneously

So far this year €250,000 has been raised for the Irish Cancer Society with the Shave or Dye Campaign.

THE RECORD FOR the most heads shaved simultaneously was smashed in Dublin today.

The Ray D’Arcy Show broke their fifth World Record for Today FM’s Shave or Dye campaign.

Live on radio 179 heads and 179 shavers broke the record in the Mansion House.

Not to be left out of the action Ray D’Arcy and his producer Will Hanafin got their heads shaved in front of the audience of 500.

Guinness World Record Adjudicator, Anna Orford, was there to oversee the attempt.

D’Arcy announced that €250,000 has been raised so far this year, with thousands of events still to take place around the country.

image

That means €6.35 million has been raised since Today FM’s Shave or Dye fundraising campaign for the Irish Cancer Society started in 2010.

And at the end of it all the Mansion House was in need of a good sweep!

I read about the same story on m.independent but it never once said which charity or which disease that these good people all had their heads shaved for or about.
So heads up to the journal for a comprehensive coverage and good luck to all involved in battling cancer.

Una maybe when you have watched a family member or friend die from this disease you’ll realise that every single act done to eradicate it or relieve its effects is both noble and worthy of our support.

I’m sorry that it bores you, maybe you’d find a campaign or charity that supported the eradication of the arsehole gene more relevant, interesting and exciting.

Jesus Una M its for a very worthy cause so no I wouldn’t think its tiresome seeing more bald heads… I think its marvellous what there doing… And so what if every person in the country has supported this cause a thousand times over its well worth supporting again. If you ever had a loved one that had cancer I think you would be donating for a cause like this. Sorry to sound harsh but this is a charity close to my heart & get cross when people start moaning on about events. Well done to all who take part in these charity events am very proud of all of you.

Don’t give me that bullshit about it being close to your heart, there isn’t a person in this country who hasn’t been affected by cancer. Funding for cancer services should be provided for by the state and in my experience it is of a very high standard

This is one of the problems on this site.
There were weeks where every charity was targeted. It was a rabble rousing, populist subject. Everyone got in on the act to condemn.

Una posted her remarks, with thoughts of getting lots of green thumbs for a view that would have been popular 2-3 weeks ago. Nothing more.

That’s generally why no one can take the comments section on this site seriously. Posts are made with a view to getting green thumbs. The more extreme or vitriolic they can be, the more support and encouragement they will get from other posters. Then they up the ante and post more extreme or vitriolic views.

Has anyone noticed how many of the polls conducted on here don’t seem to match the comments section?

Anyone that actually posts what they really think, or an honest response, get lambasted and abused. They soon give up. What’s the point?

Una’s post was idiotic, but she is simply a victim of TheJournal.ie comments idiocy.

I’m sure she felt like asking the usual Journal question “Why all the red thumbs?”

Fair play to all these baldies! I had my head shaved 3 weeks ago in Scotland where i live, as part of a big fundraiser night i organised called ‘Rocking the Bald for Lung Cancer’ (check out the facebook page) My 14″ long blond hair all went to Little Princess Trust Charity who make wigs for kids on chemo. Monies raised (approx £7000) will be split between Irish & UK Charities for Lung Cancer & Cancer Support. Ended up 2 men & two women joined in on the night and shaved their heads with me! I think its a bit more of a big deal for women to shave their heads for charity than men, as less socially norm to be skinhead lady, but a brilliant way to raise funds…. Well done everyone…. (Bah bloody iphone!!) what I was saying was that this money more so than any other collect for cancer research will be used wisely and on the people who need it. Ray is all for accountability also I would think that they get a comprehensive breakdown of where the shave and dye funds go.
Regarding your earlier comment who are you to say it’s getting tiresome with so many people willing to give up their time and put effort in to raise much needed funds. If you think Irish cancer care is well supported by government ask some of the nurses who struggle in hospitals or who care for those about to die on a daily basis and you will see that there is always room for improvement in the care offered to those I’m their final stages of this horrific disease.
